Neil Warnock on Talksport this morning

Recommended Posts

Other than the usual moaning from Neil, he's always pretty good value when on there.

One interesting point I noted is that, I know certainly on here, a lot of fans still don't think we've been playing well and some have been quite critical. Neil said that speaking to other managers and coaches in the championship that Norwich have looked the best team in the league.

I think we have generally been playing pretty well but without having reached top gear - we don’t seem to be creating quite enough chances, but that will hopefully come.  I guess part of it is down to how sides set up against us, as it’s always difficult against a wall of 11 men.

That’s what I find exciting, C - the fact that other managers etc have already said we look the best team in the league, yet I strongly believe this Norwich City side can look even better as the season progresses. We aren’t in top gear yet is my feeling.

He also bigged up the Blackburn forward line before he played them, said Brentford had a team just as good as last year before he played them and said Watford had a squad that should be mid table premier League before he played them. Take everything he says with a pinch of salt.

That's interesting and probably a local perception too.

Generally we are creating more chances than the teams we have played against. The final ball and the old shooting boots have let us down more than anything else.

The Derby game is a great example. Had more than enough chances to have won the game and beaten by a top notch free kick from a player capable of doing that in the world class stage.

Where I will agree is that I don't think there have been many games where we have been able to keep that going over 90minutes. But then I feel the lack of fans is a huge thing for clubs. Away fixtures aren't quite the cauldrons of hostile atmosphere they are with home fans behind their side.

It's only natural that Warnock will talk the next opponent up, especially as said opponent has a lot more resources than his and his sides are often built on being tight-knit groups, often underdogs, with a siege mentality of sorts.

However, he is right that we've been one of the best sides in the division: we're third. Many people are still saying we're not playing well and that's more related to the fact we haven't really got out of third gear yet, aside from maybe the Bristol City game. If we can start playing at close to our full potential then we should finish in the top two.

Well he's not quite gonna be all 'Nah they're ****e gonna thrash em 6-0 Farke out I say' is he?

Strangely enough, there's a gap between "The best team in the league so far" and simply calling your opponent a good side, but I'm guessing you knew that.

Getting over, under or around a parked (Boris) bus is, for sure, the riddle of the Sphinx even with twenty-two legs involved  (and not forgetting the five subs now of course.) Double decker? Triple more like.

We are, have been and always will be a very good attacking side but that bloody bus needs circumnavigating one way or the other.

Bill Punton, where are you?

I don't think they will park the bus.

I can just hear him saying pre match "look, I really want to beat these f***ing prima donnas. I like Daniel but those lads think they're better than most. Let's give them a lesson today lads. They might just think they can  rock up at our place and collect a point or so. You'll have to be at your best but let's just show them from the first minute that they're up north now and we give nothing away for free. Take the initiative and watch them retreat into their shells".

Etc etc. You can just hear his talk can't you. Difficult match and I admire old Neil. I hope we are up for a fight anyway or we are coming back with nowt.

'Boro at home, may be not a bus park. They will need to stretch their attacking capabilities to the extreme though.

What's Jonny Howson upto nowadays? He opened up the entire Man. City defence once I seem to recall.

Most of the rest in this league will come with defence in mind though.

From what I have witnessed so far, us and Swansea are the class acts in this league.

I don't know much about Watford though, except for the fact that I once did a drunken runner from a curry house there and had to go back next day to apologise and pay up.

From what I can see online both Bournemouth and Watford fans are saying the same. Not playing well but picking up the points. I believe it's very hard to play well in this decision. It will always come down to better finishing and the willingness to fight for every point.

There’s a lot more to come hopefully from how we’re playing so far. At the moment it’s fairly good but Norwich will walk this league if it consistently becomes what we saw in 18/19.

Living up North, the locals genuinely can't believe it's the same player. I've showed them the Man City, Forest (I think?) and a few other goals he scored for us. They think it's someone else, as he's a defensively solid but entirely unspectacular player for them, who gets a nose bleed if he goes over the half way line.

If ever there was an over rated player it was Howson. He was just a slightly better version of Kenny that’s all.  Anonymous and unspectacular most of the time.

He is of course right, we have been playing some terrific football in recent weeks, always things to improve on but our play has been good to watch.

A young super talent, youngest captain at Leeds? Just goes to show that players develop in different ways and at different speeds. It’s why we should never go too overboard when our youngsters get off to a flyer, IMO Farke does a great job of keeping young talented players grounded.
I fear for Todd atm, I would hate it for him not to fulfill his potential.

To be fair to Howson, he's been played at full-back for large periods of his time at Boro. I don't think that's making the most of his attributes.

But when he was spectacular, he was REALLY spectacular....

Out of reactions, but spot on CW - Howson was a player for us that has certainly created some of the most special vivid memories I can remember in the last 10 years! Man City away being a standout 🙌

Whilst I agree,  he's only been played at full back for the past season and a half (ish). These opinions from the locals were well established long before that. In fact, they thought he was pretty useless until he played at right back, now they think he's OK.

He gets loads of stick but he is a very very successful manager

i like his dry sense of humour when he eventually retires he will be missed by the game

He is one that I would not have minded managing us

Would you change your mind when he gets us relegated as he tends to do? I mean yes, he's great at getting teams up but keeping them up? Now there the old man has has quite the problem
