Lord have mercy on us all All political leaders have to be on board with the views of the party they represent. History would have suggested Biden personally would have been worse for us on the Ireland score post-Brexit, but actually things don't seem too bad between us and the US. Old or not, he's a quality statesman. As for Harris, she's a VP. If she became President it's most likely that fact would change her presentation somewhat like most before her have done; you can't just speak for yourself in that position. Trouble is, the US is bitterly divided, thinking Trump will MAGA.
Foxy2600 300 Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) Not a single reference to President Biden's speech last night on the BBC - well I'm sure Gary cozying up to Greta or Smarmy grabbing a Tory seat, is far more important than the leader of the Free World. A Load of Squit 5,161 Posted October 20, 2023 The bloke who owns Truth Social is really going to annoy Donald Trump when Trump finds out about this. https://www.axios.com/2023/10/18/biden-truth-social-followers-trump By the numbers: Both follow counts on the campaigns' accounts were regularly increasing Biden's account, Biden-Harris HQ, had about 25,100 followers as of Wednesday afternoon. Trump's, Team Trump, had about 21,500.
A Load of Squit 5,161 Posted March 1 In the US Federal law on immigration overides state law, Biden was correct in stopping the Republicans undermining the Constitution. That's what he promised in his oath of office. In his order, Judge Ezra said that legal precedent affirms that "states may not exercise immigration enforcement power except as authorized by the federal government" and that SB4 "conflicts with key provisions of federal immigration law, to the detriment of the United States' foreign relations and treaty obligations". Additionally, the judge rejected Texas' claim that the state has authority to repel an "invasion" of the territory, saying that "surges in immigration do not constitute an 'invasion' within the meaning of the Constitution." "[To] allow Texas to permanently supersede federal directives on the basis of an invasion would amount to nullification of federal law and authority — a notion that is antithetical to the Constitution and has been unequivocally rejected by federal courts since the civil war," Mr Ezra wrote.
