Team+Discussion For Bristol City

Recommended Posts

So we potentially have a LB problem in our ever makeshift defence if Quintilla is not fit. We can cause Bristol a lot of problems in midfield so I reckon Farke will want to keep some consistency there(and not risk Zimm), Aarons to switch to left back, Mumba to come in. We do need to rotate our squad at some point, but I think because of shifting the defence around we will stick with the tried and tested midfield.

                          Krul

  Mumba, Hanley, Gibson, Aarons

                  Skipp, Rupp

       Buendia, Vrancic, Cantwell

                         Pukki

I would leave Skipp out and replace him with Sorenson. Otherwise ditto.

Watched Bristol last night. If we play to our best we will beat them but they're no mugs

No reason not to experiment at this stage.....3-4-2-1... think this lot are intelligent enough and 4 across the midfield gives extra cover for the defence....  all players playing in familiar areas.... width slightly deeper out of possession.

                         Krul

     Sorensen, Hanley, Gibson

Aarons, Rupp / Skipp, McLean, Platcheta

           Buendia, Cantwell

                    Pukki..

Could always change it if necessary, but Bristol City won't be expecting a change in formation since we haven't done so for 3 years!

Rest for Skipp / Rupp

Subs GK, Mumba, Zimmermann / Tettey, , Vrancic, Martin, Skipp / Rupp, Hugill....

I think I would go for a bit of continuity where possible as the team needs to continue to gel. However I’m tempted to bring Placheta in for Cantwell. Old,school numbers below

  1. krul
  2. aarons
  3. sorenson
  4. hanley
  5. gibson
  6. skipp
  7. Buendia
  8. rupp
  9. pukki
  10. vrancic
  11. placheta

It's a hard one to call because Rupp would be the obvious, experienced choice to cover at right back (whilst Max switches to the left), but he's done so well recently, linking the transition between defence and attack. Is Mumba ready? Can he play at left back?

Questions also remain at the other end of the pitch... Cantwell got subbed at half time and Vrancic didn't have the same impact as he usually does off the bench/as a no 8.

I'd like to see something like:

                       Krul

     Sorensen, Hanley, Gibson

Aarons, Skipp, Rupp, Platcheta

           Buendia, Vrancic

                    Pukki

I expect Farke will stick with a back 4 though, at least to begin with. Can Stiepermann still do a job at left back?

Sorensen did well at left back imo and just needs more 90mins under his belt so I can see an unchanged side from Farke. The only possible change I could see is Placheta in for Cantwell.

I thought when we went to 3 at the back, we saw the very best of Max Arrons so I also wonder if we will see this change later in the game if we require goals. The benefit of Sorensen starting is that it doesn't require an extra sub to make that tactical change.

I'd be amazed if we saw Sorensen at left back again.

If Mumba wouldve been on the bench for the Brentord game I suspect he wouldve got the nod over Sorensen.

I wouldn't mind seeing 3 at the back with Sorensen slotting in there.

There’s no way Sorensen will be at LB again. You don’t start a right footed central midfielder at LB out of choice. Although still not ideal, there are much better options available to him when he has a full squad to pick from.

Gibson is listed (somewhere) as being a full-back as well as being a CB. Can't recall what side.

Either way, Arrons is apparently flexible and it would be good to have Zimbo in there. He should be back at his commanding best by now.

Boy. Do we miss Lewis's attacking intent (my thoughts many times during recent matches.) Much more of a miss than Godfrey and less predictable than Max, imo.

Sorenson at LB an experiment not to be tried again got away with it once.  Bring in a proper FB that is Mumba and Max to LB.  Last game against Bris C Max scored equaliser coming in from the left why he was there don't know if replacing Lewis.

Was an option Wednesday but not selected.    Don't think Farke has too much confidence in Marco anymore.   Have to agree with Move Klose.    Makes more sense to leave Max in his favoured RB position than to move him, so either a 3 or let Sorensen continue at LB... he did well enough and often Farke only drops players who don't perform.    Max usually goes left when we go to 3 at the back.

Like the idea of 3 at the back for this one.

For me it would be

                      Krul

    Sorensen  Hanley  Gibson

Aarons Skipp Rupp Placheta

     Buendia     Cantwell

                 Pukki

if they felt the need to play with 4 at the back I would probably replace Placheta with Vrancic and try Sorensen in his preferred position of defensive midfield

I think Bristol will set up for us to play in a rigid 4-2-3-1 expecting the counter attack and giving up a fair bit of possesion. Given a lack of left back, I'd like to see a 3-4-3 with a high press, mobile front 3 of Cantwell, Pukki and Buendia. But it relies on Placheta if he is the one in such a formation to be disciplined to track back when his natural instinct is attacking. No such worries with Aarons on the other side in this formation

That's what inspired me to put it together. Crazy, really. Especially as we have no recognised left back fit and only two CBs (exc. Lungi)
