Hmmm, it’s difficult.  It would be something like this, but could easily be changed as I recall players I’ve loved to watch

Woods, Culverhouse, Bowen, Bruce, Watson, Crook, Townsend, Maddison, Drinkell, Holt, Huckerby

Subs: Linighan, Hoolahan, Gordon, Sutton, Ruddy (kind of think you need a keeper and defender)

It’s astonishing I know, but there’s no place for Raymond de Waard

Harry Kane and Patrick Bamford ?

On a serious note no Martin Peters, Duncan Forbes, Trevor Hockey or Justin Fashanau.

Not certain but after leaving us who would have been our most successful player elsewhere, obviously Bruce and Sutton spring to mind, but didn’t Dave Watson get loads of England caps ?

2 Dave Watson’s, we had the better one but the other got loads of caps.

I’m too young for those guys - well not really but never got to go to games until the early 80s

Gunn, Culverhouse, Bowen, Butterworth, Linighan, Townsend, Crook, Huckerby, Fox, Sutton, Deehan

Subs/Squad

Bruce, Watson, Woods, Fox, Eadie, Holt, Ashton, Pukki, Buendia, Phelan

This is based on players who actually made it at the highest level IMO.

Gunn, Aarons, Bruce, Bassong, Bowen, Fox, Crook, Maddison, Eadie, Bellamy, Sutton,

Subs Holt, Huckerby, Beundia, Culverhouse, Green

Although very creative, needs a bit of Bradley Johnson, or Mick Phelan in there, just couldn’t drop Crook or Maddison.

Two actual teams come to mind:

John Bond's early top flight: Keelan; Machin, Powell, Stringer/Forbes, Sullivan; Suggett, Peters, Morris, McGuire; Boyer, MacDougall. Lacks a class winger. Neighbour came in the next season but MacDougall left after three games.

Mike Walker's Europe team: Gunn; Culverhouse, Butterworth, Polston, Bowen; Fox, Crook, Goss, Megson; Sutton, Ekoku.

Whenever this same question comes up in the form of a new thread it gives away the age of the poster so i will start off with Kevin Keelan................😂

Totally agree on team 1. Jimmy Neighbour was a favourite of mine but yes what a team that was. Loved the MacDougal / Boyer combination. A great partnership. Big Dunc as well. If I was to take from that team and add then how about this

Keelan

Aaron's Forbes Bruce Drury

Neighbour Peters Crook Huckerby

Boyer MacDougall

Machin was a classy player and was often used further forward and I have a memory of him scoring a hattrick against Forest.

Players who could hit the highest peak, rather than ‘best’:

Forster

Aarons Kenton Linighan Bowen

Huckerby Crook Maddison Buendia

 Pukki Bellamy

Parma

...ps...that midfield though....😂🤗

For 30 seconds there, I was thinking you'd put David Fox in front of Chippy and Madders!

  • Bruce
  • Crook
  • Maddison
  • Fox
  • Bellamy
  • Huckerby

Based on how they played in the games I watched with some particular highlights mentioned:

Rob Green - his debut vs Scum

Max Aarons - consistently

Ben Godfrey vs Everton last season

Seb Bassong - Alex Neil promotion season and Hughton 1st season

Adam Drury - consistently

Ian Crook - consistently

James Maddison - Boro away

Wes Hoolahan - Consistently

Darren Huckerby - vs Cardiff

Dean Ashton - Man U at home

Grant Holt - consistently

Having watched us for over 55 years, its difficult/impossible to compare players from different decades etc but can I name some who should be considered for this team, Kevin Keelan, Ron Ashman, Terry Allcott, Ron Davis, Ted MacD, Martin Peters, Crooky, Grant Holt, Hucks, Sutton, and my all time favourite Kenny Foggo

and Graham Paddon, as he was a personal favourite for his midfield "engine" when I started watching
