Capt. Pants 4,203 Posted October 16, 2020 Speechless. Otherthan to say this was inevitable and I am rapidly losing faith in Webber.
Number9 272 Posted October 16, 2020 Gentlemen, surely the question is 'How many other defenders will be sold before 5:30?
Samwam27 519 Posted October 16, 2020 They'll say it's fine, until hanley gets crocked in 20th min, and then we're onto "makeshift/back up defenders" until Jan!!!!!
Gordon Bennett 780 Posted October 16, 2020 Is Zimmerman out or doubtful? Sounds like the reasons for no extra defenders are financial, not sure that’s Webber’s fault.
Samwam27 519 Posted October 16, 2020 But with other clubs, who don't have parachute payments, or have just sold two plays for £30m +, signing defenders, to hear we aren't signing any replacements "for financial" reasons comes across quite lame!!!!!
CirclePoint 200 Posted October 16, 2020 1 hour ago, Branston Pickle said: Not at all. When Klose left we were told - effectively by the club, via the pinkun - that we’d be getting a replacement in. That we haven’t covered any of the 3 defensive loan departures (McCallum, Klose, Famewo) is ridiculous. We have 3 specialist Centre-backs, of which 2 have played a combined total of 1 game between them since February. That does not fill me with confidence particularly with so many matches coming up...we are gambling on it being ok; hopefully it will be but it’ll be more down to luck than judgement. Unfortunately I feel a sense of agreement with this. It feels there is a continuation/echo of the mentality from last season when we gambled on it being okay and then had our season decimated by injury and struggled to field a genuine defensive unit.

Of all the positive things Webber has done up till now, this ongoing lack of defensive players is truly confounding.

Same. However, if Sorenson turns out to be a good option in central defence or Omobamidele steps up when called upon then we'll all owe Webber apologies. I'm not convinced though. HertsCanary93 222 Posted October 16, 2020 3 central defenders, 2 of which have had recent injury problems is not good enough in my opinion. A classic case of Norwich taking one step forward by signing Gibson, before promptly taking two steps back with the sale of Godfrey and Klose.

Alex Moss 2,165 Posted October 16, 2020 2 hours ago, TIL 1010 said: It is a big risk to think a) he is fit to get through ninety minutes and b) he does not breakdown during the game because if he has to be taken off we are up the creek without a paddle. Please don't mention Tettey can do a job at CB because that is putting a square peg in a round hole. As for other clubs i am not in the slightest bit interested Alex but concerned that yet again for yet another season we are skating on thin ice with regard to our CB options. I do totally get your concern there, John, and fully understand it. I too wanted to see us sign someone else, but until learning today that Farke did want another defender, was recently under the impression he was just happy to go with Lungi and Omobamidele as 4th and 5th choice CB’s before Tettey respectively. I too think it’s a gamble and a half though, and my gut feeling is that it’s almost a certainty that at least Lungi will be called into action at some point in the next ten weeks until the next transfer window where we’ll be able to reassess matters then. I wonder now if the scouting team are looking around Europe at players that have just come out of contract and so therefore could be signed outside the transfer window. That surely must be an option they’re exploring? Fingers crossed it will be immaterial and the freak injuries of last season are just that, but I too am concerned about the quick turnaround of games. canarycop 205 Posted October 16, 2020 I think we should all just calm down a bit Farke has always given youth the chance. I can see Obomadibole an opportunity soon. The kid looks a beast and will be challenging very soon. Not too convinced with Zimbo this season so far but he will come good again and Hanley last season was the fittest he's been for years. Lets see how we are come January and then if we need to sign we will do and push on. We will be top four at least by then. Let's cracking on and enjoy the ride

daisy 137 Posted October 16, 2020 I`m happy! Finally we will see the best two centre halves we have at the club playing together, yes Hanley has had a lot of injuries but we can`t not play him because he might get injured. Let`s see how we get on with these two, i`m quite optimistic.

I realise... just a shame we can't bring him back now... he is clearly the 4th best centre back we own and 2 of them in front of him cant be relied upon to stay fit. just hope it doesn't cost us points

If I see Tettey at CB at any stage this season, I may have an aneurysm. Fair. Maybe Farke and Webber have seen things in the young players that have given them some reason for the decisions they’ve made. They do have some credit in the ‘bringing the youngsters along’ account. But dang, could they maybe work the narrative a little better?
Surfer 1,547 Posted October 17, 2020 Look you lot... we have the best three / four attacking players in the division so to heck with defense .... 4-3 every week is just fine for me.

Christoph Stiepermann 1,131 Posted October 17, 2020 (edited) Neglecting the CB position is one of those irritating Norwich-y things that really drives me up the wall. No matter who is in charge there are certain traits the club just cannot or refuses to try to shake off. Alongside ending every teams losing run, signing every slow diminutive attacking midfielder available, being bad at set pieces, consistently conceding wonder goals and always leaving it too late to change a manager we never seem interested in signing CB's whether as an upgrade or because we're short. It's like there's a culture at the club that believes the position isn't that important. I consider playing midfielders out of position at CB just as bad as playing an outfield player in goal. It's a specialist position and you can't replace what a specialist experienced CB gives you with another type of player just because that player is strong or over 6ft, it doesn't work like that.
