Anybody know what his contract situation is? Seems with Idah and Dickson-Peters we have some extremely exciting talent up top.

Well done to our man in Belgium. Nizet put in the cross for the second and has been much more involved this season.

Let's hope Ricky's loan pays off, perhaps we could see 3 Belgians in the first team.

Here are the goals from last night.

That second goal came straight out of the Pukki textbook - get across the defender and stick it at the near post. That third one.... you know it's great when someone says "oh my God" just before it hits the net.

There’s plenty about him in a Michael Bailey article on our academy in The Athletic today. Sounds both promising and hard working.

I like this lad, his second and third goals are particularly impressive! Like to see him loaned out ASAP to a div 1 club and see how he develops.

Carlton Morris also seemed to have that 'Holty' look about his play early doors, however hasn't pulled up too many trees since then...injuries haven't helped admittedly.

Also a fan of Tristan Abrahams when he was with us, he now seems to be scoring regular for Newport I think.

That Giurgi seems to be popping up quite a lot in the U18's U23s highlights as well. another promising one?

To be fair we look to have a lot of promising talent in the U21s bracket at the moment.

Also noticed McAlear mentioned a lot in terms of creating chances and dangerous set pieces. There's no doubt we have a lot of talent coming through.

Talent coming through doesn't translate to first team success unfortunately.

What happened to the Youth Cup team we all cheered on?

That is probably the most stupid post I've ever read. We made £45m from the Murphy's and Maddison which paid for the promotion winning squad which included loads of our own talent. Idah and Martin are first team players without even being out of their teens. If anything the conveyor belt seems to be ramping up even more.

That's 5 players, out of hundreds.

It would be perhaps more accurate to recognize the academy as a player loan business, where players are purchased and developed to send out on loan, generating an income for the club.

Even then, in recent times, more players are bought in to do this and not developed through the academy from a young age.

What on earth is wrong with making money loaning players out knowing that if they kick on we get the benefit ie. Godfrey and Cantwell? Where is the negative?

And many clubs who spent far more money never got promoted in the first place. Look down the road. We've just traded two talented young players who made mistakes in the Prem for two players with far more experience in the Prem and La Liga and pocketed £30m. What's not to like?

Nothing at all if that's your business plan.

The post I had replied to however, seemed to be hoping that the academy would provide many first team players.

That's a different matter entirely, a tiny fraction of players from the academy make regular first team starts.

Martin & Idah don't.

If you’re a spoilt brat who wants everything  right now, then yes, the academy has not delivered a great deal. If you recognise that these things take time, then it should be clear that it is becoming more and more successful and enabling the club to also succeed as it grows.

And I doubt it is much different with other clubs. The drop-out rate for young players is known to be extremely high. I remember many years ago a survey was done of the Arsenal youth set up and out of the dozens of kids who started out at 15 or whatever the age was  then only one became a regular first-teamer. If anything our recent record probably compares pretty well.

Farke and Webber have done an amazing job creating a pathway to the first team. The players interviewed in MB's piece are so motivated because they know that they will get an opportunity if they perform well and have the right attitude.

It's shame that Webber (and potentially Farke) will be leaving in a coupe of years - it would be a travesty if a new regime came in and resorted back to relying on experienced journeymen.

If you have a huge, creative scouting network (see our success in Ireland), really top, professional staff and facilities, a great reputation for support and opportunity and an ever growing pool of young players including poaching young talent and being paid to loan them out, you increase your percentage chances vastly. That's what we've done and it's already working. We got promoted with the lowest net spend in the division (including Maddison and Murphy fees), yet you choose to spin it as failure because we came down having relied even more on inexperienced young players due to a crazy injury crisis.

They did ok.

Jacob Murphy (Newcastle), Josh Murphy (Cardiff), Carlton Morris, Cameron McGeehan, Harry Toffolo (Huddersfield), Cameron Norman(Walsall) and Bray Wyatt

and over two legs they beat Christiansen (Chelsea), Ake (Man City) Loftus-Cheek (on loan to Fulham), Lewis Baker and John Swift (Reading)

You're happy that we've we sold two of our hottest prospects and replaced them with cheap loans?

Is that you Stuart?

"Prospects" is the key word. We all saw last season they were naive at times. Gibson and Quintilla have been there and done it in the two best leagues in Europe.

We can consider them to be on a year long trial.
