Many posters felt we would lose some of our younger stars did they not? Many have stated we might lose 2 to 3. It hasn't changed anything has it if Cantwell and / or Buendia leave. We have bought players in (and in advance).

I thought we would struggle in the first part of the season whatever happened on the team side. Lots of new players adjusting and a hangover from the PL. Nothing so far has surprised me in the least.

So, I'm not revising my sense of what will happen based on rumours of Todd/Emi. As Farke has stated he will be glad when this "bloody* transfer window ends.

Thought we’d probably be playoffs or just missing out even with those two. If we sell both without any more new additions, I think we’ll probably have enough not to be a million miles away from the playoffs, but wouldn’t be surprised if it was anything down to around 12th.

I said in another thread, for me, the important thing at the start of the season is scraping points. We’ve added loads of players so will need time to really get going, but we need to still be in with a shout for the playoffs when we do “click”. So far, we’ve taken 4 from our first two and in our third had a close loss to a side likely to be one of the top challengers.

So not too disheartening. Would like to see us take 6 from the next two - Derby struggling badly right now and Rotherham likely to be bottom half come the end of the year. Lose one of those two and I’ll be a bit concerned.

Given we have Rotherham and Wycombe both coming up.. I mean I'm not one to panic but if we don't get six points from those two then I will be worried

I think it’s the difference between us being right up there for auto and in and around the playoffs.

depleted of all creativity in midfield we still were the equal of Bournemouth yesterday and I think they, along with Watford and Brentford and perhaps a surprise like Blackburn will be right up there.

Yep. No reason we shouldn’t be targeting 10 points from the next four games. 9 alright. 6 or 7 and looking like 10-12th about right. Less than 6 and you’re worrying just how low we will end up!

I find myself in strange place about this mentally.  I have always felt both Cantwell and Buendia would leave and I had a great deal of certainty about it, however it still surprised me that I felt uninspired when I saw the team sheet without them both on it.  It really highlighted a lack of creativity in the central areas.  I know things may have seemed a bit different with Dowell and maybe Stieperman available.  The concern is, especially with Dowell out with injury for a while that without more creativity in the central areas, you will not get the best out of Pukki.  He is most dangerous when he's on the shoulder of defenders and balls are played through for him to run on to.  If you are looking at the pacy wingers to provide the creativity, then Pukki is probably the least effective striker we have to take advantage of it despite him being our best.

The Dowell injury adds an extra layer to it all- starting the season you'd say we were overstocked with creative attacking midfielders but if Todd and Emi both leave and Dowell is out until Christmas then I'd be concerned.

Not fussed about Cantwell but Buendia is the one man that really makes us tick going forward as well as his goals at Championship level. There would have to be a very astute signing to replace him. We thought Madison was irreplaceable but then we got Buendia. That said at this level  he is virtually irreplaceable unplayable on his day. His loss whilst not unexpected would be a devastating blow. With him happy and playing well i still could see top two  as a realistic option, without him then 4 points from 3 ratio is probably what we have to look forward to and finishing 10th to 15th

Agreed, especially given that Farke has gone right off Vrancic. Not wanting to spark the whole debate about Vrancic again but for whatever reason Farke just doesn't trust him anymore like he did in the second half of two seasons ago.

I agree. To be honest without Dowell, Cantwell or Buendia then you probably need to go 4-4-2 and have another striker in there for the crosses. We had 33 crosses yesterday and only 6 found a yellow shirt.

Or tyou play Stiepermann or at the very least Vrancic. That starting midfield yesterday will not get thge best out of Pukki and we need him to get his confidence up and get on a roll.

Pretty much looking like this if we field the same lineup as yesterday.

However Vrancic and Leitner are still at the club - just. If DF were to utilise these two, bring in someone like Pritchard and create a chemistry within the team - you never know - we might be there or there's about !

If Todd & Emi leave we would have to invest some of that in either a specialist number 10 or someone who can play any of the front 3 behind the striker.

Lower Mid. I don’t think it’s an if well sell them. Its we are selling them.

To use a German quote from a pretty damned fine player in his day - and one who was also renowned for not taking any crap...

There clearly is a project

Get players in and sell them for profit and or if possible raise standing of club at same time.

I expect anyone of value to be sold and why would Pukki hang about past Jan either if the replacements do not deliver.

As soon as we spent sweet FA after promotion the "project" was clear with these sales and the Prem money banked i cannot think of another way we could have made more money.

i may well help the club attract good young players as they know we will not keep them prisoner either by no selling them right away and or keeping players above them so they do not get a chance.

I am not mad about it as it is clearly the plan I would be surprised if the recruitment team did not get a commission/bonus on sales.

Once relegated and the wage cuts came in it is an optimum time to sell players, highly valued from the Prem and wages low so they want to leave asap and not do a Naismith.

IMHO just hurry up and get them all sold be upfront about it and pay out for some decent replacements.

Just my thoughts but I suspect this will see us ( that has already begun ) completely changing the way we play so it will take the first few weeks to adapt. Tighter defensively, balls banged forward quicker ( Hugill and Pukki both playing as either a 2 or Pukki as a 10 ) and the ball being got out wide rapidly and crossed into the box quickly. We will be more of a one nil team than a 5 - 4 team, but this will be helped with the empty seats at FCR.

To be fair as well with Cantwell and Lewis many didn’t see what they brought to the team and with Bundeia if he really is having a tantrum his attitude could actually see us bottom half rather than top half if that transmits to the rest of the squad ( note I said if ).

Will there be time ?
If Bundeia and Cantwell ( and note the word if ) have really downed tools now it is them to blame and not the club if they have left it until now giving us no time to sign replacements. If of course we are the instigators of the sale then replacements should already be here ala Quintilla at right back as clearly Lewis was always going.

I would hope the club have replacements lined up as it was always a big possibility one or both would leave.

Absolutely. Would be silly to sell both... Also worryingly looks like our best two defenders could be off too.... Thought Max and Ben were excellent yesterday. Ben alongside a fit Gibson / Hanley my preferred pairing at the back but sell them.... So much for me don't need to sell
