Rupp better than McLean

Recommended Posts

In that box-to-box midfielder role.

McLean not got the creativity to play that number 10 role.

I'm not a McLean basher, but on the evidence so far today I think we're a good signing in the number 10 shirt away from him becoming a squad player.

Been very impressed with Rupp in what is presumably his natural role!

This has been my point for ages.

He isn't as good defensively as the likes of Skipp, Tettey or Trybull.

He can't pass or create as well as Vrancic or Leitner.

He doesn't work in the no 10 role like Cantwell, Buendia or Stiepermann.

So why exactly is he the first name on the team sheet???

A jack of all trades squad player who somehow has worked his way onto Farke's good side and now doesn't get dropped despite offering little to nothing other than running a lot, pointing even more and occasionally winning a header...

I disagree.

A box to box should be able to help defensively and also in the attacking third, e.g, creativity and also chip in with goals.

I dont believe Rupp does either effectively well.

Put a few good tackles in, had a decent shot, was always looking for the ball.

If you want creativity then look what we had at number 10, shocking considering he was a number 10 for Aberdeen.

Desperately need to invest in a couple of replacements if Cantwell and Buendia leave.

And that was exactly the problem. Rupp and McLean are very similar.

Its just unfortunate they add very little to the side.

Yes, they are very similar, and what I'm saying in my OP is that Rupp looked a bit better than McLean so lets buy a decent number 10 with the Cantwell money and put McLean on the bench.

Crucial difference between Rupp and McLean in that role is that Rupp was always making himself available for the pass, and McLean often seems to hide from the ball.

Rupp is a McLean upgrade.

Thought Rupp was good today. Always looking for the ball and worked well with Skipp.

I thought he was ok with not really giving us much.

Rupp was decent today. McLean was poor. Both of them on the pitch is insanity. Both of them cost us many chances with simple balls.
