They claim they have a mandate based on the 2019 GE.

In 2019 we were still in the EU and the mandate was "Get Brexit Done".

As long as they can command a majority in the H of C they can do pretty much whatever they like subject to the law.

It will be Penny or Rishi, as it would have been if MP's had been given the choice in the first place.

You would have thought so wouldn't you, although it has to be said that the Tory party has become a tad unpredictable 😂

If they only want a single uncontested candidate for PM then I would assume that its Mordaunt for PM with an agreement to give Sunak his old job back.

Ha ha the latest reason for a GE not being held straight away is ?
There must be a viable opposition and if the Tories were wiped out now, there would be no viable opposition.

The circus continues.

Boris as short as 3/1 or 4/1 in places and shortening! Surely not. I think I'd emigrate!

It would be like when Bobby Ewing stepped out of the shower and we found the previous few months had just been a bad dream.

I think you are right WBB. That really would be the ultimate insult to the British voter. I for one would be happy for a bit of civil disobedience if it were to happen.

10yr Gilt yields continue to fall, now 3.84%

Now well below US Fed bonds which are up to 4.13%

Lets face it, despite all the furore about gilt yields, apart from the last few years they were always 3 or 4%.

I’m seeing 11/4 now, Sunak slightly odds on.

Boris may be angling for a Ministerial job. Don't want to waste that wallpaper. And Lulu hasn't had any work since.

Mr Rees-Mogg said he had not seen any bullying when the vote took place.

Nothing other than the usual ducking stool for women and the rack for men said Mr Mogg, from his office, Spanish Inquisition Inc.

Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise.... Our two weapons are fear and surprise...and ruthless efficiency.... Our *three* weapons are fear, and surprise, and ruthless efficiency...and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as fear, surprise.... I'll come in again….

Looking at it from a Tory MPs point if view who is the most likely person to keep them in a job after the next GE? And that's all they're interested in. They know BJ will promise/lie whatever it takes to win a GE. Some other candidates have a modicum of honesty and decency whereas BJ has none. However I'm sure we'll hear plenty of 'I've learned my lesson and am a changed man'.

Yes, markets seem content that the men in grey suits have knocked heads together.

Ricardo, the markets can only stabilise until the new PM comes in. Most of the policies brought in were u turned by the new chancellor so therefore the markets had already moved as fast as they could. Any new leader coming in will not see any major changes as there is nothing else they can really do, the actions taken by Truss trashed the U.K. economy meaning the new PM whoever that maybe will have no option but to make massive spending cuts.

You are trying quite clearly to say this is a world thing, it isn’t in 45 days Truss has absoloutely trashed the U.K.

Yes indeed. Just heard Fabricant saying Boris is the man and we will need to put controls in at number 10 to help him.
I guess he is saying you put in place somebody totally dishonest but let him speak only when it suits them to allow him to do so.

it most definitely is a world thing.

Every currency is down 20% or more against the dollar. Commodities ( metals, fuel, food) are priced in dollars.

China zero Covid policy constrains supply worldwide.

Ukraine war prevents shipments of grain and fertilisers from the worlds biggest growers and manufacturers.

Truss or anyone else in this country doesn't have that long a reach. What we have in the UK is a very little local problem in comparison.

Sorry I don’t do Trumpism anymore.

Yes parts of what ‘ was ‘ happening was a world thing. What happened ‘ recently ‘ to trash our economy was a Truss thing.

She certainly didn't make things better but had little or no effect on world events.

I guess the Turks are cursing Truss for their 80% inflation and her name is mud in Germany and Spain where its also 10%.

I suggest you look at the world instead of just our back yard.

ps.    just noticed its 14.5% in the Netherlands, I bet they think its all our fault.
