I understand that when Cummings left all his personal papers should have been left and his email made non existent. My understanding is Downing St did not do their proper security, and these emails, papers and encoded what’s app chats will be released to the committee to show he is telling it as it was.

I hadn't heard that but it seems entirely plausible, especially for the current administration - I do seem to remember that Cummings was never vetted probably when he took the job and it sounds as though they were equally lax when he left.

So whether it was incompetence yet again, or in this case perhaps more likely that the ridiculous amount of authority which Johnson delegated to Cummings coupled with the encouragement to ride roughshod over the rules and conventions which are supposed to apply to those in public office  meant that Cummings was a law unto himself as far as the No 10 minions were concerned - it seems that Johnson has been well and truly hoisted by his own belief that the rules don't apply to him and his mates.

Funny thing is that you would have thought that, given everything that happened last year and knowing that Cummings is a great deal smarter than he is (and just as nasty), Johnson would have had the sense to try and keep Cummings on-side as a mate rather than deliberately provoke a fight with him .......😂

This is the Penny Mordaunt who flat-out lied by saying the UK wouldn't have a veto to stop Turkey joining the EU? That Penny Mordaunt? Jools really does have a remarkably consistent record of picking exactly the wrong people to believe in and champion.

Indeed! If Newton were still alive he would no doubt point out a new law of inverse proportion: The more Jools supports a view the less likely it is to be true.

Yet another corrupt PPE deal:

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/newslondon/hedge-fund-fast-tracked-to-252m-ppe-deal-despite-red-flags-on-finances-high-court-told/ar-BB1gRqYz?ocid=msedgntp

hedge fund with close ties to government was fast-tracked to a £252 million PPE contract as an “URGENT VIP CASE” despite red flags on its finances, the High Court heard on Tuesday.

Ayanda Capital was handed deals to supply face masks at the end of April last year, after its bid was marked as “very urgent” and officials were told the supplier was “influential across government”.

Some of the masks which were delivered were rendered unusable by the NHS as they did not meet safety standards, the court heard.

The Good Law Project and EveryDoctor are challenging the way PPE contracts worth almost £600 million were entered into in the early stages of the pandemic, through the government’s controversial ‘VIP Lane’.

They say companies with political connections were given unfair advantage in the scramble for PPE deals, while suppliers without ties to government were left sitting on the sidelines.

It is said the government failed to carry out due diligence on the PestFix and Ayanda deals, including investigations into the firms’ finances and the technical specifications of the PPE being offered.

In written submissions to the court, lawyers for the Good Law Project set out how Andrew Mills, a representative for Ayanda and former member of the UK Board of Trade, lobbied an official in the PPE procurement team.

Mr Mills and Ayanda were put into the ‘VIP Lane’ after telling Martin Kent, director of Global Trade and Investment at the Department for International Trade, their bid was “the sort of deal that really needs Ministerial attention”.

Thanks for that. A really positive move forward and hopefully that if it works it can set a standard.

Exactly - have been saying for a long time now that we need something like this on the national level to defeat the Tories. Our horrible FPTP system means that whilst the opposition are split three (or four when you factor in SNP or Plaid) ways then the Tories are likely to win every GE even with only around 35+% support.

But despite this very positive local initiative there still doesn't appear to be any recognition at the top of the Labour party that their determination to stand a candidate in every seat and fight elections alone is doomed to fail. They cannot win a General Election even if they win their red wall seats back (and that is hardly going swimmingly) unless they also take back nearly all the Scottish seats they've lost to the SNP - and that is about as likely as City signing me as a midfielder in the summer to bolster next season's campaign in the Prem 😀

Some kind of progressive alliance is the only way we can rid ourselves of this horrendous Tory shambles of a government.

If you believe that sanctimonious pile of crap you demonstrate just how pathetically gullible you and the RWNJs are.

Yes, I believe Mordaunt in this instance because she's telling the truth, coco:

Penny Mordaunt’s mauling of Angela Rayner in the Commons yesterday afternoon took Westminster by storm, Rayner and Mordaunt were even trending on Twitter. Given it was so watched, Guido thought a fact check of one of Mordaunt’s main claims was in order:

“If you were to take every single MP she’s made an allegation about this afternoon, and you were to look at all the political donations they have received since the pandemic started (since January 2020), if you were to add them all up; if you were to double them – no, Mr Speaker, if you were to quadruple them – you would still just about match what the hon. Lady herself has received in the same time period.”

Referring back to Ange’s speech, she named the PM, the Home Secretary, the Health Secretary and Lord Lister, whose total declared takings since January 2020 benchmark amounted to just £4,660 for Boris and £55,586 for Hancock. Surprisingly Priti doesn’t have a single register of interest entry…

Rayner’s coffers on the other hand have been working overtime. Since January 2020 Angie has received:

  • 21 January: £50,000 from Waheed Ali
  • 22 January: £1,683.21 from GMB
  • 22 January: £47,227.58 from GMB
  • 26 January: £1,000 from Simeon Honore
  • 30 January: £25,000 from GMB
  • 31 January: £10,000 from Rajesh Agrawal
  • 4 February: £10,000 from USDAW
  • 11 February: £25,000 from CWU
  • 25 February: £2,000 from Mohammed Imran
  • 4 March: £25,000 from Trevor Chinn
  • 5 March: £10,000 from Intro Developments Ltd
  • 5 March: £25,000 from Martin Taylor
  • 12 March: £2,500 from Simeon Honore

That’s a whopping £234,410.79, and – as Penny pointed out – the same as four times the total takings of the government figures she was pointing the finger at (£240,984). Penny had Rayner bang to rights…

Yet what do those donations to Rayner mean in the grand scheme of things? More pertinently, what on earth do they have to do with the claims of nepotism in the issuing of contracts for PPE and other pandemic-related products? Those were worth far, far more than £240K.

Looks like a classic deflection tactic / piece of whataboutery.

To be fair, that's why some conservatives tend to be a bit more "small government" so they're naturally a bit more sceptical of what they see as "government waste". I certainly don't have too many problems when discussing that, but would urge greater focus on the actual figures over the principle.

Yes, I obviously realise that, Herminge, and I also realise they're all at it, Left, Centre & Right...

The point here is why is it only bad when the Centre & Right do it? Lefties get a free pass do they? 🙃

I said two weeks ago that the right, when caught with their hands in the till, always claim, "they're all at it".

No they are not Jools. They don't get a chance with your Avatar at the front of the gravy train.

Aye, it's the easy way out for them. "They're all at it", "all politicians lie" etc.etc. Always an excuse rather than confronting the dishonest bags of filth they support. Any wonder the country is in a bit of a pickle.

The thing that's even funnier, it looks like Rayner has actually disclosed her donors and who has financed her in accordance with protocol. Some of the complaints about Johnson, for example, are about the LACK of transparency in his finances. Such as the wallpaper or indeed the cost of a holiday he was on.

Transparency is the key word. They want people to think all this fuss is simply about expensive wallpaper, which worked a treat. What people actually want to know is where his money is coming from, who is funding in the background. If he is reliant on dodgy funding then what is the moneyman wanting in return.

Hahahaha! So there are two possibilities here; either she has never received a donation to herself or her local party, or she has failed to register donations like her boss has failed to do on so many occasions. Guess I know which most people will plump for out of those two choices (given her record for treason and deception).

You're just too dumb to get it aren't you! The issue is about transparency over funding. Rayner has correctly declared her donations, Johnson and his bunch consistently get pulled up for not doing so. And unlike Lord Udny-Lister she didn't forget that she happened to be working for the company she approved a government loan of £187 million.

Is this a case of NOT getting what you DIDN'T pay for:

Boris Johnson is facing yet more embarrassment over the costly refurbishment of his flat at No 11 Downing Street after it was reported that his “massively expensive” new wallpaper is already peeling loose and curling at the corners.

Westminster sources told The Daily Mail that specialist decorators have been recalled to the apartment to rehang the “hand-crafted” £840-a-roll gold furnishing, the work of Soane Britain interior decorator Lulu Lytle, who was spotted on site last October.

Just seen this part to add to the story.

PPE supplier’s offer to help was ignored by government.
