Now confirmed as a season long loan

If that’s correct we have zero cover in that position now! With Byram out long term it’s a dangerous game to play.

Strange - we aren’t blessed with that many options for l/b.  It is a shorter season with more games to play, so if we leave ourselves short (particularly after last season) we only have ourselves to blame when injuries come, as they inevitably will.

Absolutely agree! News breaking on canaries.co.uk website

Option to recall in January.

Gives him some game time till then I guess. Still a big concern if/ when Xavi gets injured or suspended.

Guess that means we'll be paying 3 CB's then with Gibson and Zimmerman and Godfrey sweeping, then 2 wing backs in Aarons and Xavi.

If either gets injured then we have other widen players who can drop in to the wingback positions as needed.

Think it's clear that Xavi likes to get forward and has left us exposed.

Or another left back is coming in as we don’t think McCallum is near the level. Seems a very odd piece of business.

Nonsense. Rupp can cover both sides, Aarons can quite happily play on the left and Godfrey has played both left-back and right back for us. I'm not saying that switching either Godfrey or Aarons is optimal, but we DO have cover.

It’s almost like get the lad out to be developed and have game time and gamble on no injuries.....Given our track record on injuries, it’s likely Aarons will be sold and Xavi will get injured in October after the window closes!

Still I’m sure he’ll be worth more if he has a great season with Covvy.

So Aarons moves to the left...who plays on the right?

Rupp isnt a full back

Rupp isnt a full back, and he isnt a winger. Hes tried midfield, but I'm still not sure on that one. Prehaps we should try him at striker next week, and then maybe centreback?

If Xavi ans Aarons are out, then Rupp can play RB, Godfrey can play LB - they have both done it before and are well capable.

A back four of Rupp Zimmermann Gibson and Godfrey ought to be pretty good, but even better would be a back three of Zimbo, Gibson and Godfrey, with wing backs.

Lol. Calm down, like the club aren’t aware of what injuries can do to a season.

Bit of an insult to Webber and Farke’s intelligence if you don’t think they know what they’re doing here.

I can see this leading us to play 3 at back with wing backs employed.

Arguably what Farke intended all along.

I feel that there's other players such as Hernandez, Rupp, Stiepermann who could cover better at wing back than full back.

Not their ideal positions of course but when Farke has all 5 center defenders fit, it could see us becoming more defensively solid, allowing more flair and creativity from the players further up the pitch as they'll know that there's a more solid base behind them.

Just my take anyway.

Surely we need better than pretty good. I would suggest the leaked Aaron’s news yesterday suggests the potential for him to go.

i am an eternal NCFC optimist but this is starting to smack of can’t get the players off the wage bill that we want to so need to take some creative solutions.

My idea of pretty good is that they are more than capable of covering those positions. Godfrey could play virtually anywhere on the pitch and do a good job.

We do have a history of making players fit! We shall see what the plans are, but if Coventry want him back then good experience for the lad in this league.

He was beyond awful vs Luton (not that I'm writing him off), but maybe he's not impressed in training either and it's deemed he's nowhere near ready for this level yet? I would suggest that means we're probably looking at a loan signing in this area, or God forbid Rupp as cover here.

Edit: I have realised my slight mistake here in suggesting he's not ready for this level, in completely forgetting Coventry got promoted 😂

I must confess this one gets me scratching my head a little. When we signed him I was under the impression that he was going to step into any potential void created by Lewis leaving, especially off the back of the transfer fee we paid and contributing to a Coventry promotion season. I actually was thinking he would be fighting for a start each week.

However, one thing many might not be taking into account is how little football he has played due to League 1 not having a re-start, I guess the club think its essential he goes out and starts playing football again.

True but that comes with the caveat of him being here.

We have a real chance this season if we can get some momentum and settle the team down into a style of play again. Also I had always assumed he was signed with a view of being the Lewis successor.

Clearly people on here have watched a lot of McCallum. I only saw a couple of games he had in league one.

Its entirely possible weve seen him close quarters and decided he isn't ready to be second choice left back for us, and for him to develop he needs to be playing right now.

Interesting how many can judge Rupps ability to fill in at full back. From what I've seen he would do a decent job without the attacking flair.

We saw what happened last season when we didn't have specialist cover in a position. Playing Rupp, Aarons or Godfrey at left back is no better than playing Amadou and Tettey at centre back.

Going through a 46-game season with just one left back and then relying on square pegs in round holes worries me greatly, so I really hope this means we'll bring in another specialist left back.

Not saying this is quite on the scale of the Bassong at Watford scandal....but who's to say where Coventry will be in the league?

I can't see Coventry challenging and McCallum won't be able to play against us whereas he can play against our rivals. If anything, this move hinders our direct competition.

Your point is still valid though. There's a chasm between being good enough for a relegation threatened team and one that wants autos in this league.
