If we are good enough then in a lower division, why are we still playing two holding midfield players?

Why are we sacrificing attack to assume we are bolstering the back four which is still not good enough?

When will we stop playing it out from the back all the the time? It is not a crime to put your foot through it now and again.

Clearly we are better attacking than defending so get that extra man either up front or as the No 10.

Even when we were bossing the Championship 18 months ago, we played two holding midfielders to cover the defence to allow the full backs to bomb forward and provide the width

So, for Bournemouth away:

  • Is it too soon for Gibson to replace Zimbo?
  • Emi needs to play assuming he's still with us
  • Placheta instead of Onel?
  • Can we play Pukki and Idah together?
  • And... is it time to bring Tettey back?

Except of course when we played Vrancic who has never been a holding midfielder, but does offer us the passing and creativity we are sadly lacking in the middle of the field.

Good talking points Nuff..

No clean sheet this week so the opportunity is there if Gibson deemed ready.

Agreed on Emi. Probably with Todd and maybe even Idah. Thought Onel was poor today.

It would be interesting to see Pukki and Idah together. Idah's now had 2 good sub appearances.

Skipp has done enough to keep his place for me. Daft pen aside.

Glenn Johnson on sky- “ he goes over really easy and it’s a soft one, but it’s definitely a pen “ 🙄

Certainly not enough to warrant the pen. But you won't see him do that again.

With this approach to play same 11 and use same bench and 33 players rooster we very soon will have plenty of unhappy players.

Quality is there but I see this one of the biggest problems to keep happy very large dressing room.

Today very chaotic display and hardly control game in very long periods.

Skipp was poor,Zimbo not seems like first choise cb ,Xavi bad deffensive and both Argos and Dereham look overconfident and think is already big star's lol.

So half of team was bellow or max average level and think we must take draw as not bad result.

Just to add about Skipp

It was only his second ever championship game. He needs games and will probably be a much better player later in the season.

How did Max play with all the distractions?

Seemed in a mood to try and score a worldy. Preston doubled up on him all game but he linked up well with Onel and was lively.

I’d like Farke to stop this “everyone back to defend” crap. It flew in the EPL but we’re back in the Champs and having an attacking outlet keeping 2 opposition players on the halfway line would be a profitable outlet considering the pace in the team now.

Agree, this isn’t the premiership, respect to the championship teams certainly shouldn’t underestimate them, but we’ve got the same mentality as we had the second half of last season.....we need to get back to how we played two years ago! Be it down to the players still stuck in Premiership mode or Farke tactically still stuck in Premiership mode we need to reset and play our game again, all those players on that pitch are far better than we’ve seen in two games, yet we’re sitting fourth, so lots to be positive about.

I would agree if this wasn't pretty much exactly how we played when we won the Championship.

Had Pukki's late chance gone it it would have been almost a carbon copy of several late wins the season before last.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how stupid Glenn Johnson is. He is absolutely stealing a living at sky.

When Hugil came on he said Idah had just come on.

Absolute dive for the pen. Skipp is watching the ball & running towards it, does nothing other than literally touch the PNE player's back, who then throws himself theatrically to the floor. Awful.

1.50 - 2.15

No doubt it was soft, and the Preston player bought the pen, but Skipp was wrong side and made substantial contact with his back.

Slight bit of naivety from Skipp in the penalty area, but I thought Preston were a fairly cynical and physical team in general.

Ive supported City over 35 years. Anyone that makes a slight criticism of their "precious City" is made out to be a Scummer. Grow up.

Could you point out where I called you a scummer? No? Cool.

However, literally waiting for the moment we concede to wade in with trash posts is beyond pathetic.

Grow up.

Would VAR give it ?

Just watching MOTD. Would I want VAR back - no way. Even if it did always did give the right result, it spoils the game. At minimum, there needs to be something like umpire’s call in cricket - unless there’s a clear mistake the ref’s decision stands. The endless replays looking for something to pick up on are just awful.

Comparing him to the closest equivalent we had on the pitch. When you single out one players contribution, you’re inferring he was weaker than the majority, if not the entire team. My point being, he was far from the weakest and criticism would be better directed elsewhere.

Mcleans contribution was some good interceptions, some tidy passing. Rode his luck at times, a free kick or two conceded unnecessarily but got forward well in the second half and almost created in the penalty area as a result.

Interesting you saw that.

I didn't see any defence splitting passes. Nor really any major passes that started moves or were pivotal passes in a build up play. Safe passes, and a couple wayward. A cross which was over hit too. No closing down in front of the box.

Yes, he wasn't the only one who didn't play well, and yes he runs his guts out, offers himself for a pass all the time in the centre of midfield and from our defenders.

But me "calling him out" as such is a result of me personally failing to see what he brings to be one of starting 11 each week for months. None of the players who have played his position for us for a long while are faultless, but more I less they specialise in something else. Clearly from results, none specialise in defending our box and being in the right position or breaking up play. Maybe tettey is the exception, but his distribution is poor, but I understand that's not why he is in the team.

I don't think McLean is particularly good at anything attacking but is no worse than his defensive duties than mario or mo. But the guile we miss from either of those I think is obvious. I am unsure this position is best suited for him. Maybe he would be better as no.10 or alike.

Can you or anyone really truly highlight what I am missing that bang on nails him as a starter each week? Please do, I am happy to be proved wrong.

Having said that farke is the man who knows best and obviously does, but it's just my opinion is all.
