rock bus 850 Posted September 19, 2020 Wow. never thought I’d see the day we’d be considering loaning a player to Barcelona!! Maybe swap deal with Messi?

Yes and No , it Goes on all the time that is why not many transfers fail due to not agreeing wages etc i imagine it goes something like Barcelona phone the agent IF we can agree a fee for Max what sort of wages would he expect and would he like to join us we would lke 90k a week and he would love to join ok we are happy around that mark we will get in touch with Norwich and see if we can agree a price Remember i imagine we do it to other clubs so ........... As for Max to get a call saying Barcelona are interested i bet his head is all over the place !
WD40 720 Posted September 19, 2020 Just thinking that whatever Barcelona or Bayern think Max is worth, surely he will always be worth more to top English clubs with the homegrown rules. I don’t want to see him without proper cover.
Branston Pickle 3,633 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) Too bloomin right we turned down the offers if they are as suggested, they were barely worth making. Edited September 19, 2020 by Branston Pickle
Jerrykerry 223 Posted September 19, 2020 Doesn't matter who the club is, they need to pay what he's worth and stop messing us around.
Kenny Foggo 1,116 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) We were told we did not have to sell so unless the offers are REALLY good Aaron's and Emi need to stay. Especially with the news on Byram... Edited September 19, 2020 by Kenny Foggo
Branston Pickle 3,633 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) You can’t be so naive to think that the player won’t have anything to do with it - but any deal clearly has to be right for us, as the owner of his long-term contract. Does seem that Barca and Liverpool have been taking the pee a bit. We have known all along that we were likely to lose 2-3 if our better players, This might include Emi and Aarons. There’s no point whinging about it if/when it happens. Edited September 19, 2020 by Branston Pickle
grababackpackcanary 5 Posted September 19, 2020 If Max were to go I personally wouldn't mind seeing Muamba as a replacement . He looked good against Luton - probably only player to come out of that game with street cred. It's through blooding youngsters we have made progress - young and hungry. This is how Max become the player he is. Our record especially in premiership of signing 'oven ready' players hasn't been great (bar maybe Hanley) under Webber - Marshall , Duda etc just havnt cut it. I think another right back on a 6 month loan will be prudent as cover til Byram injury situation is resolved one way or the other. But beeming with pride at our academy , shows the progress we have made , long may it continue.

Parma Ham's gone mouldy 2,219 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) Webber planting rumours with big clubs to concretise deals with the Palaces of this world. Driving up profile and value. Will suit big clubs when they want to sign middle tier players (elsewhere) and not have to bid against a blank cheque book. Good modus operandi, win-win 👍🏽 Parma Edited September 19, 2020 by Parma Ham's gone mouldy
Icecream Snow 761 Posted September 19, 2020 28 minutes ago, PurpleCanary said: I get the impression (I may be wrong, of course) you are not factoring in the need to make at least one money-spinning sale to make up for the large amount of budgeted income missing from last season and potentially from this. Michael Bailey was given some numbers as part of his end of season piece in the Athletic , and had said that the projected shortfall was £20m, £15m from last season and a provision of £5m with the expectation that crowds wouldn't be allowed into Carrow Road before January. He'd also said a projected £8m rebate to broadcasters would be deducted out of our year 2 parachute payment. When we last were relegated our average wage was around £28k a week, this time one player was above £20k a week, and most players are on £10k - £15k. This was prior to the summer signings, but Jordan Hugill had been reported a taking a large wage cut from his West Ham money, leaving only Ben Gibson on large wages. The wage bill can easily be handled by the parachute payments, meaning that there is surplus money there. Dave Freezer had said at the end of the January window that Norwich had a £10m-£15m transfer surplus after a final deal feel through. I think the club is deliberately being coy about the numbers given that we claimed £2.5m from the furlough scheme.
TheGunnShow 5,930 Posted September 19, 2020 Poor offer. Either you think, as a youngster, that he's good enough to join straight in without this loan stuff. I'm happier the other way around if it's a Gibson case, a player who's not played much in two years but less so in the case of a young, shooting star. And as others have said here, and I've said in previous threads, this will make promising youngsters **** their ears up at the work we do and take us much more seriously. I've mentioned Guy Roux and Auxerre before, hell at local level Wallsend Boys' Club were infamous in Newcastle circles for producing tones of quality young players that went pro. Hutchison Vale in Edinburgh has produced probably a full Scotland team of talent and hell knows who else. We used to be good at it. Darren Eadie was probably the finest example. Webber and Farke, in this regard, are basically "giving us our club back".

That £5m figure for this season looks like simply halving the usual income from ticket sales without taking account of the loss of the linked income from catering and commercial. But in any event the club really has to budget on the basis that the whole season will be in effect played behind closed doors.
pete 318 Posted September 19, 2020 But Barcelona are almost skint, in transition and looking a poor imitation of previous sides. Aarons will still want to go and will be unsettled by the offer even if it is only a loan. If Bayern are interested there are better option long term. Barca need serious attention and will be without Messi for the season after next. Loan Fee with option to buy for £25m must be starting point for negotiations. Chelm Canary 404 Posted September 19, 2020 The notion that someone at Barca picked up the phone thinking we might loan them Max Aarons is ridiculous. Let's loan him out and run down his contract till he's worth a fraction of the amount. Righto.

Branston Pickle 3,633 Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) Just connected to this + Liverpool’s “pursuit” of Jamal when they ‘weren’t going to spend this summer’, they seem to have since found c£75m down the back of the sofa/somewhere. The idea that Barca need to plead poverty to sign a guy on loan from a Championship side is just a little strange. Alex Moss 2,165 Posted September 19, 2020 Don’t know if this has been mentioned earlier in the thread, but apparently negotiations had been ongoing for around 2 weeks prior to the news breaking today, so credit to Max for keeping his head all that time. Makes me wonder if it was this kind of interesting development that may have prompted Emi to come out and put himself slightly more ‘in the shop window’, if you like. lake district canary 4,531 Posted September 19, 2020 There will be a common but ignorant theme to the pursuing of our players - and that is the idea that because we were relegated we will be desperate to sell, but the truth is we are not desperate, the players know the will not be sold unless decent offers come in - so we hold all the cards in any negotiations. Barcelona will know that now - and Max will have known that too, as will all the players.
Upo 91 Posted September 20, 2020 Negotiations should start from £40M. Barca is desperate. Messi must be kept next spring. His contract expires. That means they need to be competitive now. As in NOW. Their defence is not up to the job. Too old, too slow, not clever enough. They need to look good for the future too. Max is the perfect right fullback for them: Technical, fast, good in offence, tough in defence, comes with a brain. Critical top level exp in PL and good showing too. He is young. 20 yo for them means the future. It's a signal for the fans and Messi. That is as important almost as success.
Norfolk Dan 308 Posted September 20, 2020 I read that what ever transfer fees Spanish clubs pay out at present they have a covid tax of the same fee. That explains the loan approach to me. Next up, Webber. He wants to put himself if the shop window for when the big boys come calling. So how he deals with this is going to be really interesting to me. Handy he can speak Spanish...
HazzaJet 252 Posted September 20, 2020 Farke has said that he wouldn’t even sell Aarons for £100m as he’s far too important for us. With Byram out till January and McCallum now out on loan I certainly do agree he’s far too important for us as Mumba is currently the only available backup fullback, although I have read Famewo can play left back and I know sometimes in an emergency wingers are played as full backs. I certainly would sell Aarons for £100m though provided we find a suitable replacement prior to his departure, and so with the current situation regarding the full backs in our squad, I think unless the board decide not to sell Aarons for any price they need to look for some players who they might look into signing as a replacement for him if he does go
Jerrykerry 223 Posted September 20, 2020 Let's be honest they are holding out for 20 million plus 5 or so million in add ons.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted September 20, 2020 The absolute beauty of Farke is that he nurtures young talent and gives them the opportunity. True they will make mistakes on the way but it is the only way to learn. Part of that deal for the credibility of future young signings and development is knowing when to say good bye, to get a good deal but not be greedy and not stand in a youngsters way and by all means include add ons and sell ons. If this story has legs we all know in our hears and heads what the ball park price is. He is better than Lewis but not miles better. We got £15 to £20M for him taking into account add ons the price for aarons is clearly higher maybe £25 to £30m no more. It will leave us thin in that position though so a loan maybe the order to allow Mumba to be given his chance
ged in the onion bag 854 Posted September 20, 2020 Is the project at a critical stage here? We allow our better players to leave at the expense of the foundations of the team! Regardless of the money generated, too many changes or the wrong changes will put us back, possibly to an irrecoverable position where even players lose faith in the project. 3 go, the others will want to move on too. At present, Godfrey, Aarons, Cantwell and Buendia are fundamental parts of the team. For every one that leaves it’s a new player that’s got to get used to the system! We already look extremely lightweight in the full-back area. We have no one capable of linking the team like Buendia does. It’s only reasonable to expect that all of Dowell, Skipp, Placheta, Quintilla, Hugill, Gibson, Sorensen, Martin and Mumba will take months to become comfortable in the set up! Even longer the more new players are in the starting XI. Farke has made it clear that the old guard of Trybull, Drmic, Leitner, Vrancic and Steipermann are surplus and that makes sense but we can’t have a complete new team and expect them to gel this season. It’d be like starting again!!!! Because so many of our Champs winning players failed last season, we need these players here if we’re to get promoted.
