Holt didn't fail at Forest.  He finished his first season on 18 goals and made fans player of the season! His second season he was played out of position in a season where he was not valued as he should have been.

Yeah that's fair. But the caveat is that it was at League One level. And is was a common assumption Holt was never good enough for the Championship.

Hugill bagged 15 goals last season, in the championship. He's still achieved more than Holt did at the same career point.

Iwan scored 4 goals in his first season with us and was written off completely. I guess the point is, as always, don't judge too early. The amount of negative criticism is unjustified, especially considering his career stats and previous history of similar strikers.

He scored 14 goals in his first full season and was Player of the Season, but then scored three in 32 in his second before being shipped out on loan. His final league record for them was 21 in 96. The old argument was that he was moved out of position, but why was that? Obviously the manager at the time felt he had better striking options.

Think it was a certain  Colin Calderwood involved if memory serves me correctly?

This transfer is interesting for Liverpool to note - we went in with an offer that was apparently rejected so we negotiated and a deal was done.  Maybe something they can learn from when chasing players.

Norwich hit about 13 crosses per game last season, QPR about 16 crosses per game. There isn't a huge amount of difference there. Norwich would often cut back when there was a crossing opportunity as slinging one in to Pukki is a bit redundant - that changes if there is someone like Hugill there. Not that he should just be reduced to a 'big man' stereotype, he is pretty quick also and pretty comfortable with both feet - I think some fans may be surprised about how technical he can be.

QPR weren't some long ball merchant team last season, they dominated possession and relied on good build up play and through balls to create most of their chances - Hugill was a large part of this as he offered someone to play with back to goal and help Eze, Chair, Samuel, Wells etc to run off.

The main thing is though, he won't need any settling in period to adjust the league - which is almost impossible to get if you are only getting 20/30 minutes here and there off the bench. He can hit the ground running and offer a real challenge to Pukki, who definitely needs some kind of jump start to get going again.

Not only that, regarding the bit in bold in the Championship and with the new signings, I can see a Norwich side on the front foot trying to overload the wings with an overlapping wing-back looking to lob crosses in a bit more now there's a target like Hugill to get on the end of them (not to mention another speedster in Placheta to whip them in). What were our crossing stats in the previous Championship-winning season?

More like he disagreed with Calderwood, which is the impression people have been given, maybe partly due to him turning down a move to Bristol, plus contractual and tactics issues.

It is a long time ago now but do not forget a lot of this bust up at the time was Holt being played as a wide man not his preferred central striker role, this also  accounts for his goal scoring going through the floor at this stage of his career

As an aside, what planet does a coach have to be living on to think that playing Grant Holt as a winger is a good idea?

The same as one who once played 4-6-0 in a match (hint....GR initials) or another who focussed most of his effort on defending a 0-0 for as long as possible because you've started off the match with a point and you didn't want to lose it (CH).
