EFL Stupidity

Recommended Posts

Last season City were in a league devoid of any integrity and nest season into a league of inept stupidity.

The EFL fined Macclesfield 10 points the first time they failed to pay their players with 4 points suspended if a second failure to pay.  However Macclesfield failed to pay a second time and deducted a further 5 points.  So Macclesfield rewarded for failing to pay a second time.  Then a third failure to pay players instead of imposing a proper sanction the EFL referred the matter to an Independent Disciplinary Committee who decided a proper sanction was to deduct 2 further points.  Macclesfield stayed up by a point from Stevenage.

EFL recognised keeping the rule breaking Macclesfield could become an embarassment should they fail to pay players which was the case 6 times in the last two seasons and the EFL appealed the decision made by its appointed arbiter who have decided the league ought to have deducted the 4 points suspended for the first offence.  Macclesfield are now properly relegated.

If the EFL had a proper disciplinary method in dealing with rule breakers which made sense i.e. more points deducted for additional offences rather than fewer.  To rectify the EFL needed to appeal its appointee who just came to a completely wrong decision.

We will be subject to the ajudication of these idiots next season is Rick Parry really in charge.

Yes they need to be fair and consistent or else they make a rod for their own back. Why should point deductions be suspended ?, its not fair on the other clubs. The Charlton/Sheffield Wednesday saga has yet to be resolved how can you fine a club 12 points but  suspend it to the following season thereby relegating a different club

I completely agree. The only time I would see there being any need for a points deduction to be suspended is perhaps if the sanction is made after the season has concluded and the new one has not yet begun. In this case the penalty should have been given straight away. It’s not fair on the fans, players or club. Who in their right mind would join a club destined for almost certain relegation, and players already there would probably be looking to jump ship.

The EFL have an agenda against Macclesfield. Macclesfield were always going to be relagated.

Bit like the Wigan Sheffield Wed situation. One relagated with immediate 12 point deduction, the other has points deducted from next season.

That is what the rules say though, isn’t it? They were different offences, one incurred an immediate fine, the other was always going to be deferred. I’m sure someone will be along in a bit to give the details.

I think this is the case.

It seems that whatever the EFL does, the masses will claim it's wrong. They just can't win whatever they do, and there will always be some sets of fans crying foul.

Because they were for completely different reasons.

The rules and penalties were in place before either side broke any rules, and the rules clearly state an immediate 12 point deduction should a club go into administration, whereas the rules state that in the event of a breach of FFP rules the punishment gets determined by an independant panel who subsequently made the decision to apply the penalty the season after rather this this one.

So It's not a simple apples to apples comparison.

This is no different than terms of imprisonment based upon crime committed rather than simply saying that someone broke a law and will get punished equally regardless of whether or not it's burglary or murder...

Whether or not the decision by the independant panel was reasonable should be the real debate here rather than claiming the rules are unclear.
