Kilts and some kind of funnell/pipe system. In the terraces how did it work?

Just do what Bernie Patterson used to do in the Barclay. Try and get a seat in the upper rows.

It surely would have to be done on a rotating system. If the number allowed in is say 5,000 or roughly a quarter of the amount of season ticket holders, then that means season ticket holders will get to see around one every four matches, giving everyone an equal chance of seeing the same amount of games. Would count me out, as a casual, but at least it would be fair on season ticket holders - who I presume would then only have to pay 1/4 of the season ticket, or if they had already paid for the whole ticket, get a credit for the next season after that.

I commented elsewhere about what I've been told West Ham are doing, which is an auto-enrolled ballot, with refund straight away if unsuccessful. Spurs mention ballots on their ST renewal pages too.

Would it also take 3 hours to empty the stadium then? What happens if you need a wee at the final whistle, but you've got an hour to wait for your time slot to leave?

How would mid-game urination even work?

I think one suggestion was toilets being closed during half-time, so you'd have to go during play. But as soon as there is a break in play for a sub or injury, you're still going to have a load of people all going at once. It's going to be a nightmare.

Given that Covid-19 has a disproportionately high mortality rate in older generations, surely clubs are going to have to seriously consider an age restriction if they do start allowing limited numbers of supporters back into stadiums again?  For example not allowing fans over 50 or so into the ground as they're in a significantly higher risk category? It would be a horribly unfair situation for long-time fans who've supported the club for decades, but putting aside the obvious moral/ethical issues of allowing such a risk, I strongly doubt clubs would even be able to get insurance coverage in the event an older supporter contracts Covid at a match and dies.

Not allowing in older people is illegal due to discrimination rules and age being a protected characteristic. It would be up to individuals to make that decision.

I imagine we will see reduced capacities being allowed in at first - season ticket holders will be able to apply for tickets in advance of games. I doubt a 'first come, first served' system will be used but unsure how it would be done. Each season ticket allowing you to a certain pool of games.

I imagine all concession stands will be closed and masks mandatory in enclosed areas. But if people can now go and shop, work, travel etc together then having overly strict rules on football attendance will look increasingly out of place.

Just can't see full capacity grounds for the coming season. At the moment I would take the risk and attend but not so sure if the infection rate really ramps up. In my view a May conclusion is fantasy land unless the complexity of getting fans in and out of stadiums is removed and some games being behind closed doors. Arriving 3 hours before kick-off is just plain ridiculous.

In some ways it would be easier not to have season ticket holders as it gives the club more flexibility on who attends and how much they pay. A younger fanbase would probably give a better atmosphere in a restricted capacity stadium.

From a squad perspective there is no question that if 2 of our CBs are Klose and Hanley, then we'll need 3 more specialists as back up. We can't risk that shambles again.

I believe the club held its first consultation meeting with fans tonight about this; it was certainly alluded to last night (hope I'm allowed to say that). Ben Kensell said that it's a case of trying to find the 'least worst' solution, and fans would be consulted before any decision was taken.

It's a shame full backs don't really cover as defenders anymore we've got plently of them.

You’d presume that ST holders would be contacted first to see if they want to participate; there will be plenty who’ll not want to go if not sat with their usual companions, or who just don’t want to go because in shielding categories etc. Perhaps they’ll be able to opt out for season while paying a retainer to keep their seat going forwards? That’s how I’d do it initially, to whittle down the ballot pool.

It will be interesting to see how returning fans to stadiums work out, especially as there has to be uncertainty as to how COVID actually develops over the next 12 months. If somewhere in the region of 5000 fans are allowed then that should be an end to away fans and casual tickets to start off with. The benefit of keeping it to season ticket holders is you know who they are and it would be easier to track and trace, this could mean that ST holders are banned from passing their ticket on to other people.  The sensible way forward would be to scope demand and write to all ST holders asking who want full refunds and who want to go into a ballot to see the full season. It is probable that many of the 20000  ST holders for various reasons are content to have a refund for this season only. No club restriction could be placed on any ST holder on the basis of age or disability, it is illegal so that is an end to that one, it has to be the individual who choose to/not go into a ballot. There is a big problem for the club and indeed all clubs going to games is a habit, not going to games can also  become a habit and they could find through no fault of their own that season 2021/22 there is a sharp decline in ST applications even if everyone can get in. Many who like live football may choose to go and see local teams eg Kings Lynn , now in the Conference where it is very easy to social distance. Kings Lynn get about 1000 fans in an 8000 capacity stadium and there are many local teams in feeder leagues eg Fakenham, Wroxham, Gt yarmouth etc etc

I suspect rules like that would be suspended by the powers that be if there was a public health rationale - and rightly so I'd suggest. 100% in favour of anti-discrimination rules in general but these are unprecedented situations and surely people's health has to be prioritised over 'fairness'?  If not, then I hope they can find some way to make it work for everyone so that at-risk groups can attend games as well while remaining safe and isolated from as much risk as possible - maybe dedicate one stand for older supporters only and have more stringent social distancing in that area?

Those law changes would have been made by now if they were going to do it or at least suggested - Parliament is on summer recess now until September so there seems little scope for it to happen anytime soon. The Government has been pretty consistent in its approach. If you are vulnerable you should isolate yourself, but they aren't going to legislate to force people to do that. It is a personal choice the individual has to take. Like whether people want to get on public transport, go on holiday etc.

France and Germany both intend to have fans back in stadiums from September - in France fans are allowed to attend pre-season friendlies already. I don't think we will see any radical systems in place in England - just reduced capacity, masks, no away fans and timed entries. Those with season tickets will probably get a rebate of some of the cost relative to the amount of games it is possible to attend.
