Official transfer rumour thread

Recommended Posts

Nice to have an official thread to keep  things nice and tidy. I tried to start a Premiership one but found little interest. Hopefully this one will catch on and people stick to it.

I, for one, am a busy person, so to save time I will start an exchange with Bill which will rapidly descend into mutual slagging off and name calling ( on my part) before it is removed from the messageboard. This way any newcomer to the topic won't have to trawl through several pages to get up to speed.

Would be surprised if there's any truth in this. Even if Lewis is sold, McCallum has obviously been bought to play regularly, plus Byram can cover that position too. Although I believe Manning can also play left midfield?

If we keep everyone we're very well stocked at fullback. If we sell Lewis and Aarons we'll definitley need to buy as we can't rely on Byram's fitness.

Hope that’s not Bernard’s son.

Third post in, quicker than I thought

Even so, I think McCallum has been bought to be first-choice left-back, and I don't think Manning would be happy to sit on the bench.

Agree

It maybe just one of those where the possible transfer of Lewis is linked to a suggestion that Manning may move.

I would doubt there' much mileage in this as it would mean putting McCallum on the bench, or out on loan

Not transfer, bnut worth noting as the club will not doubt have these lads in mind when signing players

Much as Josh Martin and Idah have quickly stepped up we c, uld see one or two from the U23's step up this season

  • "It  might be an idea to keep various rumours to one thread, as last season."

As long as it's official and doesn't allow any of those "in the know," first hand from my aunt the tea lady or twitterati type postings then I'm in.

Btw. I've heard from a source close to the club that we have finally made a bid for Fabio Quagliarelli. Can't reveal anything, of course, except that my informant is usually to be seen third table on the left at Trattoria Rustica (before lockdown that is.) every Monday and Thursday nights.

Has he not retired yet, seems like he's been coming for about 10 yrs 🤣

Yep, think this one is a non-starter.

Plus if we are in for another left back I think Jacobsen at Wycombe would be a better option. He has a wand for a left foot and delivers from dead ball situations.

I'm always sceptical of stories that say "X, Y and  Z clubs" are interested. The only person likely to know that is the player's agent which means the information is quite likely exaggerated.

No he's still going strong and I've now heard that the club is currently stocking upon this stuff:

Ads how we did it: Phyllosan keeps you fit over forty

Phil O'San ?

Didn't he become a priest or something ?

As to Broadstairs, I'm afraid that is wishful thinking old chap

There will always be the 'in the know' posts, as well as the 'could he do a job for us' posts as well

However I expect the club to know who they are after and will be focused on those not some herbert who thinks he should be playing elsewhere, so his agent has him linked to City and uncle Tom Cobbley and all

I expect there are at least one or two sales of our youngsters fairly well down the pipeline as well

still, all part of the fun I suppose

Could be John's grandson, or even great grandson seeing as how many years its been.

To help put any new signings (or departures) in context these are the players signed before this window who are now available:

Daniel Sinani - forward
Melvin Sitti - midfielder
Sam McCullum - defender

It is not totally clear to me that we have signed Sebastian Soto (striker) but in any event he apparently would not be eligible for this season, and would be loaned out.

Surely if we are signing Mumba, we have Byram and McCullum to chose from with Byram happy both sides. I’m sure if we sell both Aarons and Lewis we will need at least one more wingback to cover so might be something in it if both have already lined up moves.

I get the impression that some of our youngsters have made it clear to Webber they want a move, as Webber appears to be a little narked by his comments of late.

PS Bill good thread to consolidate the rumours together 👍

Anyone heard anything about Dennis Man? Seems to have gone quiet.

Suppose Placheta is the target now instead? However they do seem like different types of wingers.

Able , yes . Happy  , not so sure Indyo  . He wrecked his Hammy over stretching the ' wrong ' leg while playing on the left. He wasnt comfortable using his left and as a result  was out for the remainder. Which is a terrible shame as he's  a very good  defender indeed.  A west ham mate was quite pi$$ed off that we got him so cheap  , really rates him , the other day he was ranting about being in the Champs with all their expensive players and needing the likes of Byram  . Then they ' Hammered ' us.

I'm fascinated to see what happens at CB.

1. Will Godrey stay? If not how much do we reinvest on a replacement?

2. Will Klose play a role next season?

3. What do we do with CZ and GH? Do we see them as good enough for next season but not for a return to the Prem (fingers crossed!)? If so ... what's their role?

Personally, I would like to see them all sold and three grisly / illiterate / giant thugs brought in with every penny that we can chuck at it!

Mumba is 18 and been on loan at South Shields this season playing as a midfielder. I highly doubt he’ll be seen as a first team option next season.

If Aarons is sold, Bryam is the only specialist right back who has player senior football at the club.

If the young players got upset by Webber’s fairly innocuous comment they probably don’t have the character to survive in football. Obviously as they have all made it as far as they have they will know how to listen to their coaches/bosses.

Zimmermann and Godfrey would be one of the best centre-back partnerships in the Championship. There is certainly no need to replace Cristoph as he is more than good enough.

Centre-back will be an interesting area - on the face of it Hanley and Zimmermann are good enough, but beyond that (assuming Godfrey is sold) there is little depth. Do the club look to improve on what is already in the club (which would likely be very expensive) or will they look for backups. Buying backups is very hard, need a player good enough to step up, but not so good they expect to play regularly.

I must admit I was surprised to see Mumba had been loaned out to South Shields. I thought he was in among Sunderland's squad - not that I pay any attention whatsoever to the goings on at Sunderland  (obviously!)

Will be interesting to see where he fits in. Michael Bailey describes him as "....earmarked as potential right back cover...".

I love Zimmermann, and I think he's been a really big miss this season. If Godfrey does go, I could see a fairly solid partnership with Hanley, with Klose and Famewo competing as understudies.

I know... it's fascinating isn't it?!

I think CZ & GH are good enough for the Championship but no higher and I don't expect Godfrey to be strong enough for the Prem for a few more years yet.

Do you stick with what we have and upgrade both CBs in the summer (should we bounce back) or start from scratch with better options next season?
