Seems we are about to buy ourselves a Polish speed demon...

Recommended Posts

Seems we have had a player from all Western European countries, with just a Czech, from the Eastern countries

bar that Yugoslav in the 70's

plus a Canadian a Kiwi. South African. Morrocan,, Argentinian

that's those of birth, not nationality from one parent

so a few more to go yet

We've had a Serb in Goran Maric although he barely played. I'm sure we've had other East Europeans but can't think off the top of my head.

Probably missing the obvious  but in terms of western Europe (leaving aside Liechtenstein etc) I can't think of a Portuguese or an Austrian player (if Austrian doesn't count as central European). I was going to say Belgium as well but there was Vadis etc etc .

His contract expired last month. He’s been on loan in Holland the last couple of seasons.

Totally forgotten about him.

If I remember he wasn't actually bad but seemed incapable of playing more than 60 minutes- Roeder just kept subbing him off.

As anonymous in your mind as he is in the tackle!

(Only joking Mario, love you really)

I thought Mario was  Bosnia Herzegovinian so checked , turns out he was born in Croatia. I know there was shenanigans in that area with wars , and borders  changed, new countries formed, but the details are beyond me.

Norwich City and the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team. Vrančić started his professional career at Mainz 05, playing mainly in its reserve team. In 2009, he had a loan spell with Rot Weiss Ahlen. Wikipedia
Born: May 23, 1989 (age 31 years), Slavonski Brod, Croatia
Height: 1.87 m
Current teams: Norwich City F.C. (#8 / Midfielder), Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team (#13 / Midfielder)
Nationality: Croatian, German

What's surprising with all of that is that he's 1.87m, there is no way he's that tall surely 🤷‍♂️

He was born in what later became Croatia on the border with Bosnia

So I assume his parents were Bosnian and that is how he identified

Bosnia Herzegovinia is usually now known simply as Bosnia
