Amazing to think how in the 50’s 60’s 70’s playing with a  leather ball that felt like a cannonball when wet, pitches like ploughed fields NCFC. mainly managed to play the same 11 week in week out

Yeah and we all worked 23 hours a day, got up before we'd gone to bed, only had coal to eat and having a day off sick was a hanging offence...

                                Krul

                 Godfrey Tettey Lewis

    Hernandez  Mclean Trybull Stiepermann

                     Buendia   Cantwell

                                 Pukki

6-0 Norwich, all 3 centre backs scoring towering headers from corners.

Easy.

Today’s players are fragile not like the old boys of the 70s running up mousehold Heath giving each other a piggy back and only about 14 or 15 regular first team players

That means Emi won’t be taking the corners then, his hardly ever clear the first defender 😳

I'm sure the fit-as-a-fiddle athletes of the 60s and 70s would run rings around our out-of-shape lot of today..

They dont use steroids anything like as much any more . In the past loads of players would routinely have pain killing injections into knees, hips ankles etc. Kept them going but they paid the price  later in life. Bodies wrecked by playing under the influence of  steroids when they should have been rested and healed. I'm glad player welfare is on the agenda nowadays...otherwise we might as well watch Christians being thrown to the lions for entertainment.

The fitness levels required to be a top player now are insane compared to even 20/30 years ago so is it any wonder there are so many muscle injuries?

We really only need Aarons. If he's fit we can manage quite comfortably without Rupp and Leitner.

Suppose Idah's injury must have happened during all that time he spent on the pitch on Saturday.

He wouldn't get a game anyway so we can presumably manage without him too.

Exactly. It's almost an arms race nowadays with regards to fitness: every year players have to become ever so slightly fitter, quicker and stronger to maintain the same level. Players are being pushed to the edge of human limits, so it's no wonder that injuries are increasing at the top level of professional football.

He's got a point though. These well trained highly tuned athletes do get injured quite easily.

It would have been more frustrating if we were still in with a realistic chance of staying up. Some players have a very poor fitness record but most are fine. We may as well concentrate on getting the players fit for next season, if that means giving some youngsters a chance so be it, nothing to lose

Losing Rupp would be massive in addition to losing Tettey in midfield. .Think I'm right in saying the Trybull/McLean combo hasn't mustered a single point this season.

I would swap positions for Stiepermann and Lewis.

And put Vrancic instead of McLean

Would think if any Premiership player had to compete on the tennis circuit they would be knackered by the end of the week

I'm not convinced he does. There must be a reason why elite athletes get far more muscle injuries than Sunday League players, for example.

Probably because the clubs do not risk players particularly as the biggest clubs could name two first teams. The slightest niggle and its off to the private clinic.

And Sunday League players pay to play so love the game so much they play with injuries. But you have to wait an awful long time for a scan as an amateur and you would miss an awful lot of games.

And professional Rugby players play more games, in a more physical game and turn out game after game. So maybe its just the money the players are worth.

For those old enough to remember Superstars off the telly, it was always the tennis players who crushed everyone else in the stamina round.

Remember that program and the number of times Formula One racing drivers would finish way above footballers

That’s nothing, in Duncan’s day they used to carry grand pianos on their backs up 30 fights of stairs before doing 1000 press ups and then abseiling down again.
