I like that team.

I think it’s definitely time to try Buendia in the middle, he has been both  a liability and wasted out wide. Further forward means he can do more damage to the opposition and less to us!

Id be tempted to have Vrancic alongside Tettey but we need to be solid to start with v Everton so why not try Rupp.

It looks great on paper, but given how overrun we were against Southampton with only two central midfielders, I'd be tempted to take out one those attacking midfield three to put another one in.

This. It's something I've been asking for particularly now the defence picks itself.

If we're going to have any chance whatsoever we must, must, must get a bit more solidity in the side and not be so incredibly easy to break down.

Hand on heart I think the younger attacking players are more of a hurt than a help at the moment, so I would actually see Cantwell dropped as well and Buendia made a more traditional free role #10.

Maybe something a bit like

      McLean Leitner Vrancic Rupp

                 Buendia

                            Pukki

Control the midfield, get our passing game going. Buendia and Pukki only need a moment of freedom to spring a chance. It's a little bit square peg, but Steipermann, Trybull, Tettey & Hernandez can all fit in that midfield and Duda, Cantwell, Drmic are swappable with Emi.

Ultimately it doesn't really matter what formation we use if we still try and play with only 2 players defending.

Dropping one of the attacking three midfielders might not be a terrible idea. I’d probably play it as a 4321, let the full backs push on and then have Cantwell and Buendia playing close to Pukki.

Krul

Aarons Godfrey Klose Lewis

Trybull Tettey Vrancic (or McLean in for Trybull or Vrancic)

Buendia Cantwell

Pukki.

This. like it

With the ball, vrancic pushes on. Tettey protects the centre backs

without the ball, Duda drops back, vrancic hunts the ball and tettey protects the centre backs

IMO Trybull should be nowhere near a starting berth for a while - far too weak for this level, sadly.  Our m/f was just too anonymous and easily beaten by the Saints, we can’t let that happen again.  Something like Cambs has gone for has to be it.

Buendia to replace Drmic and play near Pukki, Rupp or Hernandez wide for Buendia and Tettey for Trybull but the most important change... we have to move the ball fast.    Keeps us on moving and makes opponents work harder.    Defence always sets the tone for the performance, they all have to move it quicker.

Like that one.

I think Pukki will too. He looked out of sorts with Drmic near him.

Let’s hope Everton give their all tonight and are completely shattered for us. A couple of (non-serious) injuries and/or red cards wouldn’t go amiss either!

Anyway, team...

Yup, that's the one. People complain about Alex's lack of creativity, but we've plenty of that throughout the team; it's his type of defensive ability we lack.

Given the current injuries that looks like our strongest\best team to me.

Tettey is essential, bit baffled as to why he didn't start on Friday.

I was wondering the same thing, my only thought was that he’s our CB backup so Farke is being cautious.

Also, didn’t we have some of our best results last season with Vrancic playing next to Tettey?

Possibly something like this but with either Cantwell or Buendia with instructions to stay forward and narrow to try link with pukki and stop him being isolated.
