TIL 1010 4,737 Posted May 7, 2020 Twelve years as a main sponsor and then a partner to end with Ben Kensell expressing disappointment. In the current climate that is going to be a difficult financial hole to fill. https://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/sport/norwich-city/norwich-city-to-part-ways-with-aviva-1-6641987

Of course, BK could have something in the pipeline? 🤷♂️
essex canary 495 Posted May 7, 2020 Probably another cheap and nasty betting company. Then again it is a problem for football as a whole rather than one club in particular. Some ethics are needed.

Duncan Edwards 2,231 Posted May 7, 2020 Wasn't the LeoVegas thing contractual?
Jim Smith 2,317 Posted May 7, 2020 I can't imagine this sponsorship was worth a huge amount given what it was for. I believe it was coming to an end anyway. No doubt it will be referred to if we end up pleading poverty but I don't think its anything more than Aviva cutting back on non essential spend.

That may be so Jim but where every pound is a prisoner in our self funding model this is something we could well do without during this current situation. To find a replacement will be hard and even as Duncan stated BK has something in the pipeline there could well be a rethink from whoever it is.
Jim Smith 2,317 Posted May 7, 2020 Yes but if it was coming to an end anyway this is really just them confirming they won't be renewing. Obviously not ideal but not convinced its a hammer blow to the finances.
Surfer 1,547 Posted May 7, 2020 (edited) iMO we look on Aviva favorably because it was once “our” Norwich Union, carrying the flag for our region. That all changed and even though the logo still has a hint of the city in it, it’s just another company now to my mind, Unfortunate that they don’t value a relationship with NCFC anymore, but they’re getting good exposure from sponsorship of rugby and so “goodbye”.... TIL 1010 4,737 Posted May 7, 2020 Such a shame in my mind that the biggest employer the Fine City has ( 5,000 ) cannot be kept within our family in some way, shape or form.
nutty nigel 7,528 Posted May 7, 2020 Have no idea about the details of this. But it's something we might see more and more of while football is so obsessed with other people's money and taking money from whatever source it's offered in order to keep pace. I wonder if we had a reputable local firm whether we'd want to be associated with football as it has become.

I don't know how much it was worth but these deals have a shelf-life because the benefit to the sponsor/partner company decreases over time. Twelve years is a fair go.
Capt. Pants 4,225 Posted May 7, 2020 Aviva was putting in nowhere near as much as it was, probably less than a million? This is not new news anyway and has been im the pipeline for some while. There will be, I would imagine, rebranding costs over part of the ground if and when a new partner is found. The challenge will be finding a partner to invest when no-one can go in the ground. Duncan Edwards 2,231 Posted May 7, 2020 I'd suggest whoever brokered the Galway Roast deal would be ideal to source a new partner

Facing the largest recession we've probably ever seen, I'm not surprised Aviva is clawing back every non essential spend they possibly can. I'd rather they did their best to keep those 5000 jobs in Norwich than spend it on football sponsorship.
wcorkcanary 4,334 Posted May 7, 2020 They haven't removed their name from the revamped lansdowne road stadium. Call me a cynic but it might have something to do with it being a venue for euro matches , plenty exposure there...if it ever goes ahead. I also feel that if they could do without the 5000 they employ in Norwich, they would, in a flash....and may yet.

nutty nigel 7,528 Posted May 7, 2020 They're also no longer associated to the binners. Not since they sold the debt ridiculously cheaply to the boy Mucus. With hindsight that was a masterstroke 👏👏👏👏👏
Warren Vidic 3 Posted May 7, 2020 Sadly after the furloughing of staff and taking Tory money to keep us afloat I'm considering no longer associating with the club. It seems completely opposed to the socialist ideals of being self financed that I espouse. I think I'm going to start following Neman Grodno. Same colours but they haven't relied on a government bailout.
