Germany’s return is going well....

Recommended Posts

It beggars belief, yes it’s the Mail, but the camera cannot lie!  And to believe amongst the clear breaches of social distancing, they are morning about wage cuts just goes to show what footballers and football across the globe has become! One can only hope fifa and eufa as well as the FA see this and react accordingly.

It’s covered on many news outlets, the mail was the first one I found to copy and paste. He posted it live for everyone to see on Facebook!

Think we can agree some of our footballers are equally as stupid remember Grealish, Walker etc. etc.

The death knoll can't come quick enough.

You really cant legislate for such crass stupidity. Fine him heavily( that should hurt if hes already moaning about money) and use him as an example " pour encourager les autres".

The King Covidiot.

Strangely he had commented about reservations he had for football restarting. Perhaps it was a one man sabotage attempt!

And he’s now been suspended, effective immediately so he won’t need to worry about playing now..

Only 10 positive Tests out of 1700 players and staff who will be isolated. That is exactly the point of testing so you can break  the chain and isolate any one with the disease. Players and staff will be tested again next week. It is no wonder that Mail is seen as a joke given the abysmal quality of its reporting.

But if they've already infected other players then it could snowball. What happens if one squad sees half their team get it? Once matches start then the risk escalates as social distancing becomes impossible.

But they have tested all the other players and coaches and they don’t have it You then retest anyone with contact with positive tests. That is the  point of testing trace and isolate and eventually you eliminate it.  S Korea is the Classic where it has used test trace and isolate to reduce a major outbreak.to a few cases in a whole population. The players and staff will be in a lot more controlled environment with very limited contact.

So the story really is that they are doing exactly what needs to be done to safely restart and only found that 0.5pc are positive and they have a process to eliminate cases so they can start safely but of course that is a boring story.

Bit late if that positive test is after the player has high fived and shook the hands of all his team mates and other staff.

I think you’ve missed what the story is.

I would suggest that Covid testing is far more important to our NHS staff, police, fire, ambulance, the education system, care homes and care staff, and many other groups, well before footballers are added to the list!

I think you’ve missed what the story is.

And that is why people are being retested. The story is that the plan to get work and society moving is to implement measures to reduce spread by hygiene measures and expanding test trace isolate not just in football but generally in the UK and Germany and elsewhere. i understand people in S Korea  play sport generally as a result of their success of. test, trace and isolate.

So all that is happening is that the German football leagues are implementing measures to enable a potential return of football. The same way that my employer is looking at measures to reopen offices by limiting the number of people and sending everyone masks and whatever else experts recommend.

The general views is that outdoor environments are a lot safer than indoor so playing football would be safer than going to the shops or going to work indoors which have always been allowed. So it would be strange to have stronger restrictions applying to sport than other activities.

Anyway German government will look at football plan tomorrow along with other plans for lifting restrictions generally. I’m not saying it will or won’t happen or making a judgment on whether it should or should not happen as the government will do that but merely reporting the local news unlike the Mail. as will likely be considered in U.K. decisions.

I completely agree with you and so does the German government. Germany has more test trace isolate capacity that it can use since the start and expanding it further to the extent experts are complaining the capacity is excessive. I completely agree that football shouldn’t start until test trace isolate measures are available to front line workers but everyone in the UK. The German politicians are agreed that the football plan is conceivable and plausible but should not be given special treatment. Neither should they be stopped from working if they follows safety measures.just for example  hairdressers can now start working again this week providing they follow agreed safety measures.

Just got T as he seems to have taken more of an issue with the mail than the actions of the player....

https://amp.theguardian.com/football/2020/may/04/salomon-kalou-films-himself-breaking-covid-19-rules-with-hertha-teammates

Kalou's abject 'performance' in the dressing room has just been on the BBC news sports feature.....What a silly man.....

Italy's return is going well too. Training restarted for most clubs this week, and Fiorentina have this afternoon reported that three players and three staff have tested positive.

And this is a country that's several weeks ahead of us in the pandemic stakes too. The EPL really are quite pathetic for turning this into such a charade.

Correct on both accounts. The UK's daily cases/deaths figures are considerably higher than Italy's right now.

There's many examples in the world of when capitalism reaches disgusting levels, but surely the EPL has to be one of the worst.

Yep the point of testing is to identify who has it so you can isolate them so you are absolutely correct that it is going exactly as planned in Germany and Italy.

And if they have already spread it to other players/staff?

That is why they are also being tested regularly and quarantined   Test trace and Isolate is absolutely they way you eliminate the disease.without a vaccine.  S Korea has done it successfully for a whole country so not a great challenge for a relatively small controlled group. Only 10 out of 1700 tested positive in the first round in Germany lass than 1pc so there is not a lot to eliminate. Always a risk but the risk is minimal. The risk for the general population under 65 without pre conditions is the same as a 185 miles drive. so the risk will be even less for a fit and healthy group in a highly controlled environment. Not exactly a lot of old unfit obese professional footballers are there.
