A Load of Squit 5,135 Posted April 18, 2020 https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8232135/Mexico-SUSPENDS-relegation-promotion-two-divisions-FIVE-years.html Mexican league football owners have voted to suspend relegation and promotion between the country's top two divisions for five years. This makes the most sense, five years in the Premier League is well deserved for our club. 😀

I could only imagine the legal ramifications that would follow that decision!

The most likely thing if they cannot finish the season is to do nothing in terms of promotions and relegations. The Premier League is a separate business so can in effect do what it likes so why risk being sued by Norwich, West Ham, Aston Villa for relegating without completing the season. It's far simpler to not relegate than it is to find a way of working out who to promote from in effect 10 or so teams who still stand a chance of getting promoted either directly or through the play offs. For Leeds or West Brom to think they have an right to be promoted because they currently sit 1st and 2and is laughable

You can’t relegate and promote when nothing has mathematically been achieved. The court battles from the relegated bottom three would stop any future season starting. Had the same thing happened last season Leeds would have been promoted with us, and Villa weren’t even in the play offs. All of the bottom three can still comfortably escape, there’s absolutely no guarantee the championship top 2 would be that at the end of the season. The only other way out of it instead of null and void is that the PL call it as it is with no relegation and no promotion from the championship, or the PL call it as it is with no relegation and invite two teams up from the championship, and then leave the ball in the Efl’s court on if they can get a vote and agree on the top 2 going up. And unless the Efl can finish their season and actually have their promotion slots sorted then those teams would find it hard to take legal action when nothing has mathematically been concluded
Van wink 2,994 Posted April 18, 2020 An EPL without relegation is a possibility I mentioned on another thread, pull up the rope and wave goodbye. A sad day but not without precedent.
