Pugin 601 Posted April 14, 2020 We were warned that The Athletic were known for aggressive marketing and were hellbent on dominating the serious sports-writing market. Well, they have made their latest move. The Athletic is available free for 3 months, with the assurance that subscription can be cancelled at any time. It's an offer which is hard to decline, but I would suggest that it is a nail in the coffin for many of the excellent provincial football writers around the country, who are already an endangered species. To be honest, the few times I’ve read anything from them - and it’s only the intro admittedly before you can only read on with a subscription - I haven’t been impressed enough to pay money for it.
