Coronavirus and the Media

More Fox News.

Why is it always Fox News, well because they are that bad it is always Fox News

Evangelicals here are rabidly pro-life (except when it comes any life saving issue after birth)

How can you "see his emotions" if the interview was by phone?

So if you want to keep up to date with US news, avoid Fox.

In the same way as I could listen to Obama for hours with his fine oratory skills, I could and do listen to Cuomo. His NY accent might not be the most alluring, but what he says and how he says it is very absorbing.

I'd stretch that to all news including the bbc,sky and the msm. if you want news, read reports from people who are on the frontline of the NHS and from patients and their experiences. Most of the figures presented are all skewed and massaged.

when it were our own Government mistakes that now three doctors have sadly died, it others that are accused and threatened with a 'reckoning'. Whilst we go into minute detail of Italy's misery, point to Germany's ( false) figures, our own coverage is marked by clapping exercises and false promises to supply front line staff with what they urgently need, honest Guv'.

Saving face seems to be the only game in town.

I see right wing hero Toby Young is championing National Socialist eugenics policies.

Those tweets won't age well, by my reckoning April 14th numbers are going to look pretty grim.

He is such an idiot. When he previews the press on TV he keeps his head down a bit. But he unleashes his right wing mysoginist and homophobic rhetoric on social media.

I expect that his costing for a death of a human being is

Pensioner=Take their insurance policies from them

PAYE Minimum Wage=Peanuts

Toby Young=No expense spared

And all this from a idiot whose father was a pioneering Labour Party politician???🤔

There are quite fee unpleasant folk to come out of this current crisis, this fella, the likes of Mike Ashley, Tim Martin and even people like Mike Coupe CEO keeping Argos open in his own Sainsbury's stores. Money. Profit before people. Each of the above have some serious wealth and I'm guessing they only see the world through the lens of pound notes.

Meanwhile ... at CNN. Cuomo's brother is the Governor of New York.

Question: not that their lives are any more valuable than others, but has anyone "famous" died from the virus yet?

Depends on the definition of famous Surfer but I don't think anyone known to most people in the country has yet.

Michael Rosen has been very ill but hopefully will pull through.

There was an interesting debate on the radio about the plight of the pub industry, Some pub chain owners are being responsible but there are a few that are still charging their tenants rent even though they have no chance of making any money.

Keep your eyes on this or some big boys will destroy our pubs just to make a few quid out of others misery.

I dont agree with much if what toby young has said in those tweets and I am more than happy to make the sacrifices I am if it gives just a few years of life to the most needy.

But.....if poverty kills, (and I mean kills) then surely he has an argument that there will come a point where we must accept the lesser of two evils?

If he was arguing we need to shift our spending to focus on proving who is "in the clear" and identification of who is at risk, he may have a point. But most if not all of these kind of arguments is "just go back to work"

I get the feeling Toby Young is more worried about his finances being hit rather than anyone elses.

Just observing today's WH press conference, it's very clear that President Trump has lost control.

Fortunately he has lost control to the medical experts. Everyone in the press corps is ignoring all the "clarifications"  he's trying to interject, the two people clearly in charge here are Dr Fauci and Dr Brix.

Probably because they are telling US citizens we should expect over 100,000 deaths before Summer.

So the "the President didn't know" argument has started up from the RWNJs.

Joe Biden knew, and public said so in the newspapers, so they are attacking him...

One cannily hope that we are coming to the end of Fox News ability to BS the nation.

The truth is slowly coming out, in real time, in the living rooms of the Fox Nation.

And someone is getting very worried that he may have crossed the line in misrepresenting to the people, who then followed his advice. Unfortunately for him Fox News is not protected as a news organization, they expressly declared themselves entertainers rather than news reporters a while back while being sued over another matter.

Threatening to sue the media is a favorite tactic of Trump and his allies these past 6 months, but it is just a threat, because if they did legal discovery kicks in and they would have to give dispositions under oath to the other sides lawyers which would then become a public record. So they threaten, then stop.

The British media is finally doing what it should be doing. A few years late but still....

Indeed. The shift in questioning statements is very noticeable....and welcome... and way overdue.

A guy on the news this morning who seems to be a health expert didn't pull any punches, politely, when comparing Hancock to Gove. And he also said testing a 100K is not a problem. There is no shortage of any labs, reagents or kits. He believes retesting is the main priority.

I hope (like everyone similarly affected) that he is able to recover...

KATE Garraway’s husband Derek Draper is in intensive care battling coronavirus.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has been forced off the ITV show because she has symptoms too and is now self-isolating with her children.

I didn't see much social distancing from the media this morning when they opened the Nightingale Hospital. Are they immune? They were all stood right behind the Secretary of State for Health.

I don't trust WHO on this. If 6k actual doctors say #Hydroxychloroquine works, I'll take that over the opinion of an organisation that at every stage of this contagion has been at best sclerotic, at worst incompetent.

This is the wife of a government politician deliberately lying, it's disgusting.
Six thousand doctors did not say it works.

As Fox starts to refurbish its propaganda around "nobody could have known, Obama didn't prepare the US for this, 100,000 deaths is better than 2.4 million.....   Nicole Wallace is a presenter who for years was a Republican President's assistant... so no "bleeding Liberal"

Well I suppose you have to laugh about it - or else you might decide to sue someone for deliberate misinformation that directly led to thousands of people dying because they listened to you. There is Constitutional protection of freedom of speech, but there is not protection from the consequences of your speech.

Good effort by Alan Johnson this morning. So much true in what he said.

This Pandemic has been allowed to progress because of many things but the time and effort to get Brexit done meant many ignored the warnings. And Brexit would have been done if the present PM and his cronies hadn't delayed it.
