Eddie Howe - wise words

Recommended Posts

I wonder if Sky (and all the other TV companies around the world) and thus the PL will say to teams you have only played 29 of 38 games so you will only get 29/38 of the money for this season?

That will make our transfer policy look like genius and i bet there are a number of PL clubs currently concerned that may happen (which is why we hear this insistence of finishing the season) and financial fall out as a result.

PL really want to move on, that is cancel this season and start again at least plan for Aug 2020 and if possible play games behind closed doors.  Restrictions on congregating 500+ will not be lifted in the near future.  Do not want to state this because of vested interests making noises but already BT and Sky looking for multi million compo from PL for filing to play games.  There are many others waiting in the wings to join the compo bandwagon.

I'll wait to see if Teemu starts  to look a bit peaky in May time you took yourself to isolation.  Not exclusively Teemu anyone can sabotage any resumption by feigning the symptoms or feeling a little dodgy.  Clubs at bottom of PL the likely culprits.  Cancelling is the only logical option unless PL willing to rewrite football calendar and will need all Euro nations to go the same way.  As it is unlikely all to agree to begin 20/21 next Sept, Oct. Nov or Dec the PL may put English football out of step with European football.

UEFA has stated must complete by June 30th that is the date by which the PL will need to get of the pot.

'Eaiest scam in the world - and I'm afraid those on the right fall for it'

Or we just print more and more money to pay for stuff until we run out of borrowing and everyone is unemployed. I'm afraid those on the left have continually pointed to this as Utopia.

Those on the left wished for people to die and millions to lose their jobs and houses? Care to provide proof.. at least this is keeping me amused whilst self isolating.

Of course rather than financial support people during these war like scenarios, it's better to chuck them on the unemployed rubbish dump, all needing social care and financial support... Said no one EVER.

My understanding is that the view is that it will take at least 6 weeks to finish the football season and that of course assumes no more players/officials are confirmed as having contracted coronavirus. It matters not if games are played behind closed doors or not, three weeks into the period of trying to get the season completed and a team has a player confirmed as contracting coronavirus and that will be the end of any chance of completing all fixtures in that period. Given that things look as if they are going to get far worse, the options appear to be null and void or extending the season into 2021 and then you have a clash with the Euros in 2021......

The PL teams have enough players on their staff to complete games if one or two players contract Coronavirus. But this is only a discussion point if they have decided to play the rest of the games behind closed doors. The bigger sports related issue is nobody is training either right now, so there first has to be a decision to restart that at least. Maybe that is the first set towards "normalcy" that everyone would want to see.

Like others I believe the answer will be "null and void" at least for the all leagues below the Premier League. But a sequence of closed door FA Cup games televised for the sake of national morale combined with financial compensation to lower league teams based on their average home game attendance would be helpful, and the PL can just stand pat as it has plenty of revenue as long as Sky can't claw it back due to non-performance on their contract.

Then UEFA is not fit for purpose.  This is an unprecedented situation and flexibility is key in all areas of life. Pontificating "must be done by such and such a date" is just wrong in every way.

There is an article on the athletic saying that PL clubs were told today that they would have to pay back £762 million if this season can’t be completed

Void it and take the money out of next season.

If the PL clubs have already received the £792 million they should tell Sky to go pound sand. And let them claim the money back from their insurance company. Or put 11 players in each half of the pitch and have one of them kick the ball around between themselves for 45 minutes while the other jogs laps, and then switch around at half time. There, contract fulfilled.

The article is saying that some PL clubs don’t think they would survive as their outgoings are so high

Players will have to take a 25 percent cut or have no job.

Oh dear what like Watford, Bournemouth, Villa, West Ham, Brighton?

Sorry guys, going into administration is an automatic deduction of 15 points to be applied to this season.

Football as a sport will be fine. When the epidemic has passed the stadiums will still exist, there will be players - maybe mainly new British ones - to play the game and spectators to watch it. All that is under re-examination is the price of watching it and when it restarts.

If a bunch of overseas multi-millionaires get burned by this too bad, they never should have been allowed to take control over so many English clubs in the first place.

Gets better. Some clubs don’t believe that their players will play in these matches as they believe that they and their family are being put in harms way. I’d have thought that Sky would  be treading carefully here as the PL can tell them to do one on the next contract renewal as sell to a streaming service like Amazon, but it appears it’s Sky that’s putting all the pressure on them

Uefa didn’t say that.
