Financially we must be OK.......but.....

Recommended Posts

Clearly our financial situation must be really healthy to see us over this awful period.
we have spent next to nothing on transfers, so the Bank Manager, and our board must be happy.

However should the , by far, the richest league in the world, pass some of the huge amount of money downwards to the lower league clubs.

Without doubt some totally rely on their week to week gate income to stay in businesses.

I for one should love to see that happen, but knowing just how greedy the PL is, don’t think that will happen.

Basically money has in many way spoilt football, the game we all love would gain a huge amount of credit if the PLdid the decent thing.

I agree. The money is ridiculously uneven. Next seasons money must be shared equally. The Tranmere Chairman said his club's income each home game was the thick end of 300K. That is only 7M for a whole season.

Surely everyone is in this together and most will lose something. It won't hurt the EPL club's to go without transfers for a season.

The question is not one of supposed wealth but of how much is that spare (see Mr Micawber)

Pretty much every club spends up to (and above0 it's income. The real fear is the domino effect of one club not being able to make a stage payment to another....which carries on down the line.

There is an episode of Dad's Army where each member owes the other £50 pounds and it needs to be passed around so it pays each one off.But without an initial £50 it jmas up.

If Leicester still owe us for Maddison how would that effect and stage payments we still owe ?

That could only be resolved by putting a freeze of all payments and debys until income starts to come in again

Unfotrunately many still think a football transfer equates to buying a pint. And to say that we spent nothing in fees is rather missing the point taht we did. We have also a wage bill that were we to be relegated would have to be met with around 330 less. So it is not about having money - but having liabilities to be met.

The FA Cup win at Spurs is looking more beneficial by the moment. I think the remaining 7 FA Cup ties will be played before the end of this calendar year. The Quarter-final tie with Manchester United will net us over £1.5 million. Not massive money but more than useful.

This will be unbudgeted sales which technically should have gone into the 2019/20 budget, but will now go into next season's budget. City's financial year ends on 31st May, as with all EFL clubs. All clubs need the EFL to issue a statement of intent within the next couple of weeks, or else planning becomes impossible..

The real challenge for the club will be writing the 2020/21 budget, with uncertainty everywhere you look. The club's success in getting all key players tied into long contracts is looking touched by genius in terms of managing risk. Outgoings within the budget are pretty much cast in stone (subject to player sales). Income from Season Tickets, TV, Sponsors, match day sales etc. is anyone's guess, so it's a horrible job.

But before we feel to sorry for ourselves, imagine being a chaotic club like West Ham United at the present time, with no manager nailed down for next season and a tradition of high turnover of players. As fans, we are very lucky by comparison.

I want Ipswich to go out of business but not like this. This would be too convenient for them. A cop out. Their punishment must be more severe.

the money from the top needs to trickle down and help the other clubs. Without teams there is no football. This is our heritage and must be protected.
