Is it really possible

Recommended Posts

Do you think there is the remotest possibility of the season being declared null and void.

If so what lessons do you think we might have learned

A bit early in the pandemic development cycle for assessing lessons learned

but one would be nice try but dream on if you want to keep topics on a single thread

Our front 6 players aren't big/strong enough. They lose the ball too often and put the back 4 under pressure

Perhaps they might think that their stance on spending was indeed wrong and our position could be attributed to that and therefore make more money available to get the players that we obviously need.

The board will be praying for that.

It would then justify their decision to spend virtually nothing on transfers .

Hardly justifying the decision, more like getting them off the hook

Following the sale of one or two of our prized assets we should have a few pounds to spare to add to our squad.

I'd suggest specifically targetting hand-washing OCD players going forward.

But only for corners if they're centre halves.

Waiting to be swept along by events is rarely a good policy.

UK numbers up by 208 today. Biggest daily rise

Until tomorrow.

Lesson learned this season - If, whoop whoop,  it magically turns out that we have avoided relegation because of the measures taken to combat Coronavirus...

I have no doubt whatsoever that VAR will have another look at it, deliberate for 5 minutes, and then overturn the decision.

Why would they void the season when the majority of it has been played out.

Because a quarter of the season hasn’t been played.  The league is based on playing each other home and away from the outset.  We have played all the top sides at home and have (supposedly) ‘easier’ games left - is it “fair” we don’t get the chance to play those games?

Unless there’s a rule for it (and/or no precedent), a large legal issue might well follow.  Keeping all parties happy, and away from litigation, will be interesting.

The precedent is WW2 1939.

More pertinently, is it fair we’ve already played the harder fixtures... and now is our chance to get out of this mess.    We don’t need a virus!!!      OTBC

1939/40 is a rather different era, I think the season was abandoned after just 3 games?...presumably (1946?) they restarted ‘that’ season from scratch?

But I don't think there is a "fair" outcome available. Liverpool have a lot of clout within football and will probably threaten all sorts of they have the title taken away from them. I think the remaining fixtures will be played, even if it means postponing the start of next season. Could they scrap the cups for a year to make the season shorter?

Fair point, even though that was very early in the season. But I don't think it makes much difference at what point the season is abandoned (if it is), as Branston says - unless all fixtures are completed the season will be null & void. No way can Liverpool be awarded the title or anyone relegated based on only three quarters of the games played.

But I assume we are still some way off that at the moment. But if any of the predictions around the progress of the virus are correct then the current early April date for restarting games looks totally unfeasible and then it starts to look very difficult to see how the season could be completed.

If the matches cannot be completed by the end of May I think the only answer is to declare the season null and void. Otherwise there will be debates, arguments and legal threats which will never be resolved prior to next season. You could possibly argue that if a side is mathematically already promoted/relegated then that could stand but as no side is in that position that cannot apply. We are in the Premiership next season !!!!!!
