What I don't understand is why they are not simply refused serving at the till - if the security/staff don't have the ability/wish to man handle them out if the door

Sainsbury’s near me does the self scan /scan on your phone things so probably didn’t  get the chance.

As doe the one near me, but there is always a member of staff nearby to sort out the consistent problems - and whatever measure was used to stop them using the manned till, could be used to stop them accessing the self service till

The word would get out quick enough

Had a No Mask MammaJamma in front of me, predictable phone grafted to the side of her head, completely ignored gelling the hands and walked straight to the fag or lottery counter. Not asked to put a mask on.

Lady and I just stood shaking our heads.

20 year old and 70 year old know nothing yobs are just the same. Treat the same. Sainsburys should have security at least. Escort out and refuse to serve in a small shop setting. Point out CCTV.

therein lies the problem

she should have been refused service and security called

it really is that simple

however I suspect supermarkets are more concerned with keeping the tills busy than keeping customers 'safe'

And this is why so much of the figures put out is worthless mumbo jumbo

"Families on low incomes are avoiding the Covid-19 testing system because they cannot afford to isolate if they get sick, while red tape is hampering access to the government’s £500 compensation payments.

People in some of the most deprived areas of England, including Middlesbrough, Liverpool and the London borough of Newham, are less likely to request a coronavirus test."

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/jan/16/low-paid-shun-covid-tests-cost-of-self-isolating-too-high

much as with the 'r' number which is little more than guesswork

I know some in here pay serious heed to this  type of 'tea leaf gazing, but it is all pretty meaningless

what counts is whether the hospitals can cope with the number of COVID infected patients requiring intensive treatment.... that's all

Good news young man. Having to travel far? I am only interested because my 91 year-old uncle, in remission from Big C, has an appointment seventeen miles from home.

Thanks Barry, no I live in the City and they gave me a choice of three medical centres,  Fishergate, Lionwood or Bowthorpe. They are all no more than a ten minute drive so I just choose the earliest available appointment.

Good man. I have no idea how all the logistics work out with people having a choice of venues but hopefully someone somewhere has it all in hand. A jab on Saturday won't give you full protection but it's a step along the way.

Yes, but it feels like its a start. I am in the third group so it appears to be getting a good lick on now. The news today said they were confident the 4th group would be done by mid Feb.

Group 4 - that's me!!! I'll be waiting impatiently for the post every morning from now on.

I didn't get a letter Barry, my medical practice phoned me this afternoon and made the appointment for me. I wondered if they were filling in gaps as they run out of the over 80's. It must be a massive logistical exercise but it appears to be working o.k. Lets hope they don't run out of Vaccine.😉

Believe me with COVID restrictions you won’t even get a coffee and biscuits whilst on your 15 minute pre jab wait, even if you are very good.
Some give you a sticker though.

Great news Ricardo, if you get finished early any chance I could use it on my stair carpet bud?

But seriously, that's great news! I was pleased when Mrs D got hers as she works in care. As much as the chances of her getting very ill were low, it is good to get the jab.

And as I've followed your story over the past year I know you'll be mightily relieved to be on the road to safety, I wish you well Ricardo.

I'm on weekly immuno-supressant jabs, I never get a sticker...

...mind you, I do them myself, I'll have a word!

As I mentioned before here is an example of the sheer logistics of getting the people in once you get a delivery. It is not just about supply but none of these guys wether they are in a gp surgery or a hub will allow any of this to go to waste. Where I have been they heard today they were getting a small delivery tomorrow night, so they now have to arrange 600 appointments and get it administered by Friday night.

'Vaccines arrive with only a few hours notice to find patients'

Doctors giving Covid vaccinations say it has been "challenging" when deliveries of the jab arrived with only a few hours' notice.

The centre has been set up at the JCB factory in Rocester, near Uttoxeter, Staffordshire by several GP practices in Cheadle.

The medics say they can get through about 900 jabs a day but Dr David Yates told the BBC they often get about 12 hours' notice of new stocks arriving.

"Yesterday we suddenly got told we had 900 vaccines, which is a whole other batch of the Pfizer ones," he said.

"I think by last night we had 170 people booked in ready with people frantically on the phones all day."

I might have to start hanging out outside doctors surgeries at closing time like some kind of yellow ticket hunter at the supermarket 😆

"well if it's going spare and only going to go to waste...."
