Not surprised whatsoever. 25 in mid-September, 150 a week ago and 268 now in Leeds hospitals with Covid. and us next door in Harrogate are still just about clinging on to tier 1! Very strange one... id expect our nightingale to be used before long to free up space for covid people in hospitals

I know. We moved here to be with more of our family, and our youngest was accepted on a specialist course in a particular college. He is expecting to be on-line soon. Just want life back to normal which I guess isn’t going to happen until we have a vaccine, and then another 9 months. When I moved up here not sure I even knew anyone that had had Covid, whereas now I probably know directly or indirectly of more people effected than I see in the EDP. One of the main reasons people keep to the rules now is isolation, everybody knows you mix with a positive all your family isolate for 2 weeks. It’s like a war zone. How I Wrote Elastic Man 1,187 Posted October 29, 2020 I'm sure this will have been mentioned before, but A mate of mine on Facebook has said a mate of his (yeah, I know) has been contacted by "track and trace" saying he has had a contact with someone positive, he needs to isolate, take a test in 7 days, and would he mind giving his card details to cover the cost of the test I googled COVID track and trace scam and it seems from media reports that this was happening back in the summer Like I say, I'm sure this isn't news to you all, but I think it's worth repeating

Presumably the "bed hoggers" that are not quite well enough to go home but are in recovery will go to the nightingales, freeing up room for covid people. Well b back 3,200 Posted October 29, 2020 Could we have a game changer ?. There are lots of trials going on which we hear little or nothing about. A bit strange this one was launched in front of the TV cameras, I will see if I can find out more about it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/health-54734068

Yellow Fever 3,767 Posted October 29, 2020 3 hours ago, Van wink said: Well you know what I would say to that. From the link I posted, which is being shared widely within the NHS and hopefully education communities, it’s the teachers that appear to be presenting the greatest risk. Cheers - Link seems to say good ventilation was important in any setting. Anyway I was seeing the 'good' news that the rate might just slowing in the last few days in places but of course schools are closed nationally at present with all that then goes with them (parents, teachers and pupils) less mingling. A slight 'pause' for breath is what we might expect.  Apologies if you'd made the same point earlier. Sadly I'm not optimistic given overseas we are seeing a significant change in R.

Well b back 3,200 Posted October 29, 2020 Thought we would be left out of tier 3 for a while longer but itv local news just said Birmingham, Walsall ( that’s us ), Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Solihull likely to go to tier 3 as early as Monday. That’s just about every major area above Coventry in tier 3.

Well b back 3,200 Posted October 30, 2020 Teemu If you feel Covid doesn’t exist you should move to the North. So far we have lost 2 relatives and we are about to go into tier 3 to protect the South from getting the tsunami. With the greatest of respect when it gets to where you live you will realise that Covid does exist. I appreciate everyone has their own views but convincing people Covid does not exist is not helpful.

Ultimately it’s all about reducing risk and lowering the potential for spread. It’s a shame that people don’t seem able to take some basic precautions to look after their own health and that of others. I guess the issue at football grounds is keeping the separation not only in the ground but also in the lead up, entering and exiting the stadium and people shouting and singing. Astonishing to see the crowd at Bishops Stortford the other night, how on earth can the message be got across when there are such blatant anomalies. Yep, the death figures don’t cast much light on the progress of epidemic atm, I have no problem with people taking alternative views but it would be more helpful to their cause if the data was relevant to what we are dealing with and the way we know things progress. I didn’t even read the ins sorry. Did it quote the August figures ? Of course it will show no excess deaths and hopefully they will be kept to a minimum over the winter thanks to our wonderful doctors and nurses. Main way to slow it will be a vaccine, something he is opposed to taking and persuading others to not take it as well, luckily 80 % of the U.K. do not share that view.

I am playing 7 a side football outside once a week to get my fix and everything I have read since the start of the pandemic on outdoor spread reassures me that my risk in that setting is absolutely tiny provided I don't hang around in a big group at the end chatting and laughing away. In an abnormal time, agile thinking is needed. Perhaps things like having pop up food courts outside should be promoted (with capacity limits clearly) rather than pussyfooting around on what pubs can and can't do. This is one of the reasons why I think it hasn't taken off as much in many developing nations. They do much of their shopping/trading outdoors in open spaces so while it can look busy and chaotic, its far less susceptible to covid spread than many "safe looking" indoor shops. I wasn't annoyed about the beaches being pretty full in summer for this precise reason. Yes there is plenty around that that could be unsafe like the toilets and arcades etc. but sunbathing on a reasonably full beach in summer was incredibly low risk
