Agreed (although presume you mean other “non-key workers” who went to work as normal). This is basically the announcement they made last Monday - work from home where possible, don’t go to social gatherings, only really go out for exercise and food shopping. There isnt really much new here that responsible people weren’t doing at least a week ago. Hardly blood on the PM’s hands if he has to take more draconian steps a week later (such as giving police the ability to enforce the advice) purely because of a number of selfish people have continued to do as they wish. The blood is on his hands for not doing anything except "advise" people for weeks, and for not enforcing it, and on the hands of those who twatted about at the weekend. There's a strong argument that if Boris hadn't pansied around with it, and had treated it more seriously sooner, then they wouldnt have been twatting around at the weekend. The keyworkers are enabling the NHS to function so I think that's a harder argument to make - it's more of a balance... I'm a teacher and I'm not choosing to go to work, I don't want to be at work and putting my family at risk, but I'm going because I have a duty to go to work at the moment - if I don't then I'm pulling 10+ people out of NHS duties.... I think given the number of people who only have a mild version, the balance is in favour of going in and risk catching/spreading than pulling people away from caring for those in desperate need... Again that goes back to Boris though - Schools should have shut weeks ago. Boris' dallying has caused far more people to die than necessary, and it won't be forgotten. If you meant non-keyworkers, then no, not their fault - they did what Boris told them to do, businesses were more interested in profit than people's health and people couldn't afford to lose jobs or isolate without pay. Boris just told them to do the wrong thing following the incoherent herd immunity strategy which the WHO said was ****ing ridiculous and based on nothing. We don’t really know the level of infection in the community do we, but looking at the curves at the moment we are on the same trajectory. We have however taken measures over the last week which have been adhered to by some, so hopefully that will have some influence on where we are in 2 weeks time 🤞 Of course Italy have more ventilators than we do! Fairly sad state of affairs if people needed the threat of a fine to realise they shouldn’t have been out socialising this weekend. It was quite clear to the large majority of the population what Boris was saying. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it was quite clear to the whole population, but thousands of people decided not to bother listening to it. It’s not blood on the PM’s hands, it’s a PM trying to give people a chance to show they don’t need draconian measures to do what’s best for the community. Unfortunately, it’s evidently clear they do.
