I imagine footballers are one group in society who are in very close contact with each other, given the training routines and team building. They train, eat, travel and socialise together. You would think exposure levels are higher to a virus? Maybe we hear of other cases in the next few days.

Imagine if Martin Keown was still playing. Every footballer would have caught it weeks ago.

It's a hilarious possibility that the season in which Leeds and Liverpool finally win their respective leagues is declared void.

I wonder if there will be any implications on TV revenue or consequences for unfulfilled contracts etc. I can see lots of lengthy legal battles.

This is why the EPL will only postpone games at the moment. It depends what it says in the contract with Sky etc but there may be a get out if the Government takes the decision to cancel football. And let's face it, Sky needs football more than football needs Sky. Sky will not be looking to annoy football

I expect the Premier League will try to fudge it but will quickly be swept away by events. The bullet will eventually have to be bitten.

This is my prediction on what will happen...

With the Qatar World Cup in 2022 due to start in November, I could see displaced seasons being used until then.  If the 2019/2020 season starts again in September and runs until the end of October, the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons can run January to October, leading into the 2022 World Cup in November 2022.

It would then take a couple of seasons to get things back to the normal August - May by gradually shifting (or there could just be no 2022/23 season).

Yes it would mean football during the summer, but we have that anyway with the Euros / World Cups etc..

they are planned way in advance - it is not simply a case of opening the turnstiles and away we go

Dr Who would be good as Ricardo is already behind the settee.

Watford and Bournemouth now have it. Why do 7 out of 20 EPL clubs have it but no EFL?

why is it not spreading in Africa ?

is it because many of the poor beggars don't have spare food to hoard

...... as the middle classes of the western world have it all in cupboards

This is a disease that is being spread by affluent people who can afford to travel. They then give it to poor people who die because they're not as healthy

If you look at the map of Africa  and countries affected within the continent  it is the more 'advanced' states that have reported infection. The rest are struggling to feed their population let alone   collate this kind of info.

That was  a compliment!!  Believe it or not.  As I said no offence intended , hopefully none taken. We all need our legs pulled from time to time.  Except Heather  Mills, of course. *

*Bad taste joke of the day

It would make sense to suspend and then cancel the season as part of the policy to "flatten out" the spread of the virus. It is clear the authorities accept that most of the population will be exposed to the virus, and it needs to happen in as controlled manner as possible to minimise the effect on the NHS etc and get to a position where the majority of the population have built up an immunity to the virus to minimise the scale of any future outbreaks.

People talk about legal challenges but without knowing exactly what the rules of the EPL and EFL say about this type of unforeseen event I am not sure how successful it would be, from a purely moral point of view what would it say about the challenger prioritising their financial situation over the health, safety, well being, social and financial needs of the entire country?

From a personal point of view I have already made the decision that if the season is cancelled and I receive a refund on my season ticket I will give it back to the club, I am lucky enough to be in a position to do that, my main priority now is minimising the risk of contracting the virus as I am asthmatic and have elderly parents with ongoing health issues. I am not panicking but I am being as careful/vigilant as is possible.
