Not like Sunderland where the only alternative is to go watch Newcastle and be shunned by your mates if you did so. In London any number of other clubs to go to. West Ham's wage bill in the year ending May 2019 was £136 million at an average of £63,000 per week for first team regulars. they have spent about £140 million on players in the last two seasons, so as I understand what many have said, are absolute certainties to stay up! There will be wage reductions on relegation, but it should be noted that apparently they have yet to pay for several of the players that they have bought (They had £89 million owed on player transfers at the end of last year and have spent since then). They made a loss of £28 million last year, partly financed against future TV revenues. they were £78 million in debt at the end of the last finacial year. While the owners are unpopular, West Ham are a club with a sizeable and loyal fanbase- there is zero chance significant numbers will go off and watch Chelsea or Spurs if they go down. Say they sold Declen Rice, Issa Diop, Sebastian Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko. But that was at Upton Park and before the well was poisoned. Let’s say they get 29,000, which is fine for the Championship, but would be a terrible atmosphere at the London Stadium, and half the average attendance they are getting now.
