What's their wage bill like, though? Even with a fire sale and getting some big earners off the books, it'd still put them under pressure.

Last figures I can see puts their wage bill at £107m which is high, but they also have a higher income than most other sides. For instance they apparently make about £25m in matchday revenues a season and over £20m in general commercial activity.

4-0 now.

Villa look a worse side than us too.

Look at the difference in stats between our game with Sheff Utd and Villa tonight. We had more possession and shots, we were in it till the end. Leicester completely outclassed Villa, and we’ve taken 4 points off Leicester. Which makes our results against Villa all the more disappointing.

Which would take a hit in the Championship, no doubt. But ultimately, I can't see West Ham going down so I doubt we'll ever find out.

Massive reduction in income, even with parachute payments, and not so sure that fans will turn up in big numbers either. Not like Sunderland where the only alternative is to go watch Newcastle and be shunned by your mates if you did so. In London any number of other clubs to go to. Some might even go back to watching Ipswich.

Because they took 6 points off us.

Our record against the sides around us has been criminal.

West Ham's wage bill in the year ending May 2019 was £136 million at an average of £63,000 per week for first team regulars. they have spent about £140 million on players in the last two seasons, so as I understand what many have said, are absolute certainties to stay up!

There will be wage reductions on relegation, but it should be noted that apparently they have yet to pay for several of the players that they have bought (They had £89 million owed on player transfers at the end of last year and have spent since then). They made a loss of £28 million last year, partly financed against future TV revenues. they were £78 million in debt at the end of the last finacial year.

The price of Football concludes that:

"Losing Premier League status would be challenging for West Ham, but the auditors seem happy with the club’s going concern status and many players have significant relegation wage clauses in their contracts."

West Ham averaged 31,000 in the Championship while still at Upton Park. While the owners are unpopular, West Ham are a club with a sizeable and loyal fanbase- there is zero chance significant numbers will go off and watch Chelsea or Spurs if they go down.

There would certainly need to be significant reductions and sales but I'm looking at their squad and I think they'd have no problem raising cash without hurting the squad too much.

Say they sold Declen Rice, Issa Diop, Sebastian Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko. Those four will easily raise over £100m in fees and they'd still be able to count on players like Fabianski, Ogbonna, Noble, Fornals, Lanzini, Bowen, Snodgrass, Anderson and Antonio

Grealish will be gone end of season whether Villa stay up or not.  What a pity.  Have you seen Villa's run in only two games they might get results Newcastle (A) and Palace (H).

Couldn't happen to a nicer club hope FFP in Champs gets them for losses incurred.

They did true. But that was at Upton Park and before the well was  poisoned. Let’s say they get 29,000, which is fine for the Championship, but would be a terrible atmosphere at the London Stadium, and half the average attendance they are getting now. If they could really get 50,000 plus in the Championship, that would clearly be a massive achievement.
