FA Cup Qtr finals of yesteryear....

Recommended Posts

first one in 28 yrs....but thinking back they've been a rarity full stop.

In my time, (40 yrs)...I can only think of 4 others

1983 ...0-1 vs Brighton (Jimmy Case)

1989 ...0-0 ..3-1 replay vs West Ham

1991 ...0-1 .. vs Nottingham Forest (Roy Keane)

1992 ...0-0 ..2-1 replay vs Southampton

...obviously the 1959 ers negotiated their way past a quarter final

...is this one coming up really only our 6th ever quarter final...or am I missing others between 1959 to 1983 ??

lost 0-2     43,984

I stood in the South Stand

Stringfellow and Gibson were the scorers if memory serves.

Having stood in a 37,000 crowd against Palace I still find it incredible that so many people were squeezed in Carrow Road. Against Palace I had food in my pocket and I couldn't eat it because I couldn't get my hand to my mouth.

Really, QFs 3 out of 4 years 1989-92? Learn something every day. I knew they were a very good side then.

There was a period of a decade of so between the early 80s to early 90s where it was almost a given that we would get to the quarter finals of either one domestic cup competition or the other each season....hard to believe now

And who was the owner when these days were so great and so commonplace?

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Went to all of them, the Brighton games rankles most with me as i am sure Jimmy Case handled the ball before scoring, if only we had VAR back then :classic_biggrin:...........

Certainly not big fat Bob. He couldn't get his grubby hands on enough shares however hard and by whatever "interesting" means he tried....

Norwich City had a proper national profile and were one of the best teams in the land during his tenure - the complete polar opposite of the Socialists.

He was certainly the polar opposite of what we have now. And if you wish that back you must be eleven pennies short of a shilling....

Went to the 1959 FACup game against Man U when  we won 3-0 stood behind the goal and sure it was touch and go if game on due to frozen pitch. Sure others who were there can put me right

Okay so you hated every minute of the San Siro et al?

And you booed Gordon's goal in the West Ham replay?

No.

I just think you attack the wrong model.

Truth is if we'd had the present owners at that time we might have actually won something.

If we still had big fat Bob we'd be down amongst the binners.

This is a joke surely? The Socialists have proved themselves completely inept at owning a football club. Look at all the mistakes they have repeated over and over again. Appointing wrong managers, letting them carry on failing for too long before sacking them, relying too heavily on someone else coming in to run the club often with bad advice: Bob the Grocer, Doomcaster and now Webber.

The Socialists have taken 24 years to make it to a second cup quarter final. And every promotion to the EPL has led to rapid relegation. How can their model possibly be better than the Chase model? This is numptyism in it's purest sense.

And let us not forget Delia has sold all the best players and is going to have a massive firesale in the summer making many more big bucks than Chase ever did.

Ah yes the boy Moxey too. His tenure was so short it escaped my wrath. He famously told the AGM about a new contract for one of the Murphy boys. Not long after the said contract was ripped up by the club and he was off.

Quite right, nutty. Big Vince has become that saddest thing, his own tribute band, touring smaller and smaller venues and playing in front of ever-decreasing crowds.

It's no joke.

As I said, if Delia and Michael had taken on the legacy of Geoffrey Watling and Arthur South we might well have won something.

If big fat Bob had taken on his own legacy we'd have been royally screwed.

Vinny thinks he knows our clubs history. At best it's second hand and distorted. He's not a troll like keithy and bootsie🙃

This is the most sustained nonsense I have ever read on here and completely flies in the face of all the facts. The stats clearly show in black and white that the Chase era was by far the most successful in the club's history and to suggest otherwise is to live in denial about the club's history. Chase built upon the legacies of his predecessors and took the club to new heights never seen before. The Socialists on the other hand have ruined Chase's legacy by plumbing depths never seen since the 1950s (League 1) and making the club more or less permanent second tier. You would never hear Chase and Jones, or Watling and South for that matter, aspiring to be "top 26".

Well that one was perhaps understandable as the Blarneymeister was Ipswich through and through just like Delia.

Your uncle Albert must have been a bit muddled when he regaled you with our glorious history. Chase took over a club that had just won their only major trophy and left a club nose diving to the third division. He then fecked off lining his pockets before he went.

I'm surprised that DF hasn't been sacked as according to you Vince it is in every manager's contract that he gets the team knocked out at the first opportunity in every cup.

The next round will be his big chance to get knocked out thus saving his contract with the club.
