Anyone watch the documentary last night. Very sad to think there are people who think the earth is flat. Even more alarming that many think the Holocaust didn't happen

It's highly depressing to see holocaust denial becoming more mainstream. Anti-history, anti-science and anti-common sense seems to be far too prevalent. I did think the flat earthers were a bit of fun for a while until I realised they were serious. 

Is it simply the Internet giving tin foil hatters a bigger audience to spread their nonsense further?

Unfortunately, the deniers are Far Right in their thinking and they are trying to legitimise their ideology and draw people into their net by appearing to be astounded that anyone thinks this could have happened. That is their brief. Make people believe it was so inhuman that it just couldn't have happened.

Holocaust denial is a logical outcome of  the Marxist ideology being pushed by groups such as Common Purpose. You state the symptoms very well. 'Anti-history, anti-science and anti-common sense' are all markers to identify the cultural Marxist agenda being promoted in educational establishments and media such as the BBC.

Anti-history: The Marxists try to shutdown our traditional history, de-platform our icons (eg. Churchill was a war criminal).

Anti-science: The whole trans movement and the denial of biology (eg. Dawn Butler going on TV and saying babies are born without a ****)

Anti-common sense: Take your pick from thousands of wierdos and freaks suffering from Brexit Derangement Syndrome or Extinction Rebellion - supposed friends of nature - destroying an ancient garden in Cambridge, or worse still, preventing ambulances from reaching hospitals by blocking bridges.

So when you add in the anti-Semitism that runs as a thick thread throughout the left, you can see how they deny the rights of the Jewish people to a homeland then denying the Jewish history is a necessary step of oppression.

Actually I think the deniers are a good thing, simply for periodically reminding us of the horrors mankind is capable of perpetrating. Their arguments are so easily demolished, the adherents so patently sad & deluded (like the man with the guitar) that no rational human being could ever be persuaded to join their ranks.

There are always some people somewhere who will believe in explanations for events which are contrary to all evidence & logic. Social media now enable them to find like minded people to indulge in their own little shared fantasy.. All you can do is refute it with evidence & logic & put your faith in the inherent good sense of most of the population.

The trouble is that this BS gets more and more traction if you let it ride as the anti-vaxxers have proved. It gets to stage where historic facts and/or scientific evidence bounces off these people. I'm not sure what you can do to stop it other than draconian laws that the German's have.A verbal kicking isn't that powerful. Banning them from sites like this helps but they end up festering in really dark parts of the web.

You cannot ban ideas. If someone once thought it, sooner or later someone else will think it again.

The only way is to periodically call the idiots out & show their ridiculous arguments to be the nonsense they are. That way we never forget the terrible reality which actually happened.
