And that will mean 3 teams immediately next to us on 23 points with Villa having a cup final to worry about (players not risking injury). Now then, if we can beat Newcastle and finally get 3 points at St James Park, it will become very interesting.

A win on Saturday would really boost confidence, especially as one or more of Everton, Brighton, Watford and West Ham are going to drop points. We really need to win most of our 'six-pointers' between now and the end of the season if we are to pull off a great escape now, though. We have been found wanting so far. Something has to click a la Southampton to stand a chance from here. It can be done, of course, but we really need some of our points to be at the expense of those not far above us.

Yes , and two others on 25 points . Still plenty of time to bring them down into the relegation mire too if they go into free fall .  They all bloody well sodding deserve it for different reasons !! Unlike our beloved and glorious and untainted NCFC !!
Looking forward to going to Newcastle this weekend . We have nothing to lose now and everything to gain . Hope the team approaches it like this .
Absolutely no fear please !!

Almost worth getting the cheque book out for in the transfer window!

Be brave.

OTBC

I assume you mean that West 'am should be shoring up their porous midfield with Kenny McLean? If Gold and Sullivan can stretch to £15 million I guess we might reluctantly sell.

You never know Webber might have some aces to play now there is an outside chance we could survive IF we can win enough games and the stars align elsewhere.

If Wet Spam really do offer £15m for McLean it will be quickly reluctantly accepted and spent hopefully.

Add to that spirit that we've won 3 of our last 5 in all competitions, and lost only 2 in our last 7. The losses coming against Man Utd and Spurs (narrowly), both away.

It's all about perspective really!

Come on boys, 3 points against Newcastle and all those teams directly above who had written us off by now may well start looking over their shoulders.

Long way to go, but it's not quite over yet...

Sounds very much like West Ham cant afford to get relegated.

After Brady decided to tell us we couldnt do it our way, it would be hilarious even if we likely went down alongside them to know that they're in financial ruin and we're sound and safe.

It would be even funnier if we leap frogged them into 17th spot and they went down without us.

How are the two linked? She didn’t say you’re guaranteed to stay up if you spend big. She said you won’t stay up if you don’t spend good money. Was she wrong?

Depends if you think going down with a solid financial footing is better than going down in complete financial ruin after having spent 200m in a couple of seasons on a group of overpaid wasters who will happily sit on their contracts in the championship without performing...

The annoying thing is that this is what they said before they went down last year, then they decided to totally ignore FFP and lose tens of millions of pounds and keep the premiership squad in the champs and bounce straight back up, which is no doubt what they would do again...

Over the next couple of weeks all the teams at the bottom ( other than us ) play each other ie Bournemouth v Villa and West Ham v Brighton. A win at Newcastle garuntees making some points up, a loss or even a draw will mean losing further ground.

For whatever reason, I dislike what West Ham have become. They seem to have lost their east end character, losing whatever charm they had in the process and turned into a corporate, self-entitled club with no class. That perception may be wrong, but that is what comes across.

How they got their stadium reeks - and I can't think why they got Moyes in either, other than he fits in to the same old pattern of rich clubs buying in someone "established" they think will do a job, but will only last a few months, maybe keep them up, then get someone else in of similar ilk because he hasn't really done much.  Lack of imagination, lack of a long term plan other than trying to make money, an ethos based on privilege and power rather than football.

Used to have some admiration for their club, now it just looks like a faceless, heartless business.

As that article states, out of their next 8 games they have to face Man City, Arsenal, Wolves, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Liverpool again. Barring a Sunderland-esque run of results, it isn't impossible that we overhaul 6 points by the end of that run and catch them.

I'd say that relegation is between the bottom 6 now. Brighton in particular have a punishing run of games, with Sheff Utd, Arsenal, Leicester, Wolves, Man United, Liverpool, Man City, and of course a hopefully-fired up Norwich City across 9 games; they looked really one-dimensional and poor in their loss to Bournemouth and have 1 win in 5.

Not sure your correct regarding the first paragraph.

Fact is there are six teams in the fight now not just three which means there is hope. We have to string three or four games together to make it realistic hope though. The odd win and back to defeats won't cut it.

One swallow... 2 words to explain what they have become, Sullivan and Gold.

What about the sensible middle way as practiced by many clubs... it really is not spend loads or spend nothing.... There is many examples of sensible investment. That's what I as a life long City supporter would wish for us.... absolutely ZERO want either of the other two examples. I want my club to be playing in the top flight and not content with second tier. That's befitting of a great City.

Cardiff went the middle way last season - they spent £32 million having been promoted to the Premier League (not including anything they may pay in the tragic case of Emiliano Sala).

They were promptly relegated and now sit 12th in the Championship.

Quite. Plus signing an expensive player (for us) with a reputation means a lot of wage commitment & breaking the wage structure. And there's no guarantee of success either.

The risk/reward doesn't add up for a club like us. Better to sign a higher number of cheap players & accept some will fail - but at minimal cost.

You don't need many Teemu's or Emi's to make that strategy work!

Right...... but they’re not linked are they.

She said “you won’t stay up if you don’t spend decent money”. (her comments weren’t aimed solely at us either by the way).

She didn’t say “there’s absolutely no chance of you getting relegated and being in potential financial risk if you do spend decent money”.

Just out of curiosity Aggy how much money do you think is 'decent money'?

More than we spent if that’s the question you were really asking!
