Hopefully we can

I cannot understand that the playoffs are always quoted as worth millions to the winning team who get promoted , we get promoted as champions and have no money . Can someone explain why this is so

Maybe you can start with the media saying " the playoffs are worth millions to the winning team " ?  That's right up there with " local businesses looking forward to the economic benefits if xxxx get promoted " These are marketing messages, the latter benefit does not exist, the former comment lacks any context - yes your revenue increases but so does your costs; and massively so in most cases. Do you know of many PL teams who are making a profit?

But then we'd be £18m in debt, despite being debt-free pre-promotion- which doesn't make any sense to me.

Quite.

I have no idea. I'm not as obsessed with figures and what we do and don't have as some.

But in the interest of clarity.... here https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2019/november/club-releases-annual-accounts/

States that operating losses were at, you guessed it, £38 million

Yes I know about that.

Looking at those figures I'm not sure the idea of a £58m profit to offset the losses and give us a profit of £20m at the end of the year is that outlandish.

This suggests the team that finished 20th in the 17/18 season made an income north of £120m. So unless our costs went from £30m odd to £100m odd (which seems unlikely) I think that £20m figure would suggest we'd be £20m in the black.

No idea mate.

We need the finance whizzes AGAIN! 🤣

All I can assume is that we were still paying off wages for some high earners, wouldn't have received all the money yet for sales of players, wages this season would have increased, along with money spent on loans and their wages etc. I really don't know for sure.
