The Great Escape mini-league

Recommended Posts

Obviously we all want to stay up but if we go down i won't be so sad as long as we continue to play good football and compete. The Championship is a good league and all i want is to watch my team and enjoy a Saturday afternoon out.

We could sneak it and stay up but as mentioned we need something to spark a run, but if we go down we will be in a better financial position and in a league with weekly regular 3pm kick offs and no VAR.

it's not all doom and gloom is it?

I really haven't been excessively harsh or insulting, most of the comments levelled at Lakey have been in back-and-forth exchanges between us... it's not like I'm following him around slating everything he says in every thread. I've agreed with him on several threads recently, and we've also had some decent discussions about things.

I think he feels a bit 'cornered' at the moment because literally everyone is calling him out, and he can't handle it.

That demonstrates a complete misunderstanding of what a sociopath is. It's become just a term of abuse, like fascist, psycho, racist, sexist (most 'ists' actually) to denote someone you disagree with.

LDC is simply an incurable optimist - as am I, & many others - who get totally fed up with the whinging, bitter, moaning, chip-on the-shoulderism of the wallowers in self pity who emerge whenever the team's not doing well.

It's football. every year 3 teams get relegated from the PL. Some team will get walloped most weeks; I wonder how Villa fans are feeling today? Or Soton fans after they got beat 9-0 by Leicester? Or even ManC when they got comprehensively beaten by an injury stricken bunch of nobodies! Or look at how Newcastle fans confidently predicted relegation when that same team beat them by the same score - get rid of Bruce now! He's useless!

We'll most likely get relegated. Does this mean we should give up now - right now, today - & not support the team? Not want them to fight tooth & nail to survive? Just sit there in a suppurating pile of drivel, trying to drag every other Norwich fan into their bottomless self-serving pit of hopelessness??

Look at me! I was right! The pathetic nobodies scream. Suffolk socialists! Lining their pockets! Not a clue! Bleeding the fans dry! Spend more! Sack the manager! Sack the board! I want more I'm entitled to more! Me! Me! Me! ....

Of course it's the same sort of message throughout the land, on every football message board..

We all have opinions about the club. But that's all they are, & most (including mine) are pretty worthless. Everyone gets a bit depressed when we lose - & often a bit angry - but for God's sake try to get a sense of friggin' proportion, try to get some sort of reason in your comments. A proper discussion can be healing & therapeutic, but just chucking toys out of the pram like a thwarted 2 year old doesn't help anybody.

LDC always tries to be positive. He's a bit like Eric Idle on that cross. It can be a tad annoying (yeah yeah yeah, we've heard it all before, change the record etc.) but it's better than the awful, hate-filled carp that spews out from some others on here. Like me he gets fed up with it, but unlike me he reacts & refuses to be subdued; I admire him for that - even when I disagree with him. Personally I keep - mostly - shtum because the miserablists ain't gonna change, I just (metaphorically) sigh & shrug my shoulders.

Criticism is fine. But it only really makes sense if it has some balance & springs from a genuine love for the club - that's the real club, not the fantasy one in your head.

There is nothing wrong with people's views being different, but there was real abuse levelled at me yesterday with the C word thinly disguised used more than once, with people saying "everyone" was fed up with me, depsite several likes on my opening post. With me saying I was getting fed up with it, there was even goading others to carry on to try to get me to stop altogether - quote "Keep up the good work guys, nearly there", from someone who ought to know better.

Thing is though, Ron,  I'm pretty optimistic myself. It's not what you say, it's the way that you say it. Sure, the perpetually negative will disagree with the content of your post, but you don't start another new thread on it pretty much every day. You don't frequently talk down to other fans and tell them how they should be supporting their team despite rarely attending matches yourself. And you don't throw your toys out the pram when people call you out on your behaviour.

And while there are equally culpable miserablists on here, there are also genuine NCFC fans with real concerns about the club's future, who are willing to have grown-up discussions about it. This constant polarisation will never stop (remember 'KTFs' and 'pant-wetters'), but plenty of us manage to have reasonable discussions across the divide without generating quite so much opprobrium.

When you boil it down, the only difference between Lakey and Keith Scott is that they're at opposite ends of the positive/negative spectrum, and Lakey uses more words. He gets what he deserves.

I hear you. Hopeless against Watford, rolled over by Villa...

Yet we HAVE played well in plenty of games without seeing them out subsequently. Whether that is down to naivety, lack of concentration, inept performances or maybe just not capitalising and taking our chances when on top is open to debate. Perhaps it’s all of them?

Signing a “10” with a goal scoring pedigree might turn a few of those draws into wins and defeats into draws or better. It’s a straw.

I really don’t think we’re far away from those above us and if we can maybe secure another one or two, Duda works out and Emi finds some goals to compliment the rest of his outstanding play...you never know.

As asks go, it’s enormous. Yet other teams seem to have considered themselves “safe” prior to Watford and Soton going on runs. We’ll need an almighty run and it looks hugely unlikely on the face of it but I’m not willing to throw the towel in just yet.

I can see the improvement in performances but I just don't see the problems you correctly diagnosed above just going away. We may improve in the second half of the season but I just don't believe we've got enough in us to claw back this sort of gap.

Thought I'd unignore you this morning to see if you were apologising for your behaviour in goading others to carry on at me - it was your post that said "keep going guys, we're nearly there" and - I didn't even mention your name in my previous post about it and  was prepared top let it go, but you keep coming back with more tripe.

If you want top compare me with Keith Scott, you're really scraping the barrel, because unlike him I don't hide and only appear when things are bad - I will post on here in good times and bad.  I have said many times I will face down any bullying that goes on here and the foul language that was used by others, followed by your goading post was classic bullying behaviour. My thread was reasonable and received several likes, but the likes of you and three or four others took it on themselves to literally gang up on me....or do you not agree that quoting me saying "I've just about had it with this board" by coming back with "keep going guys, we're nearly there" is not ring leading a gang type behaviour?  No? Then think about it.

Ron got it about right, I want to see positivity when things are bad - it is the best way of getting out of any whole we are in. I do accept people have different views and I know I repeat myself probably too much - but it is nearly always in the face of ridiculous negativity - but I do NOT accept abuse and bullying. Get used to it.

It was one flippant comment in response to you threatening to leave the board because you couldn't deal with people calling you out on your bullsh*t. If you want to perceive that as 'ringleading a bullying gang', that's fine by me. My opinion is that this board would be better without you, and I hope you leave. I'm not ringleading anything, many different posters criticised your behaviour of their own free will.

I'll let people judge for themselves what they think of us both, but you don't appear to be getting much sympathy (apart from Ron, who 'got it right', whereas everyone else who's been calling you out for your attention-seeking is clearly wrong). I didn't get accused of bullying when I stuck up for you and agreed with you on other threads... funny that. Maybe I'm playing the post and not the poster, and a great deal of what you post is garbage? Just a thought.

Anyway, this is getting boring for me, and I presume for everyone else, so I'll leave you to pop in the last word and tell everyone what a nasty bully I am.

Ron obvious, there are other posters who are annoyingly over optimistic (or eternal 'happy clappers' if you want a label I've seen used on here in the past).

But those posters seem happy to share their reasoning and overtly optimistic opinions on existing threads, like the match thread, rather than feel the need to start a patronising and condescending preacher-man thread after every game. It was two threads this time! And we only got an hour to digest and debate what we'd just watched before Lakey was telling people to "get a grip".

People's annoyance only has a little to do with Lakey going against the grain and taking the contrarian position. It has much more to do with his constant  desperate attention seeking LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, MY MUMMY NEVER HUGGED ME bullsh"t that we are subjected to week in week out.

You are right though, he's not a sociopath, he's a narcissist, like Donald Trump. To such a degree that he gets jealous of people having a healthy debate in the match thread so has to divert the attention to him.

90 percent of the forum has him sussed now, it's getting boring.

You do not understand the nature of bullying then. Flippancy is no defence against goading others to keep going with their unjustifiable and abusive behaviour.

Some people put up with my repetition (and I regularly receive likes for ops) and understand it's a reaction against the almost pathetic levels of negativity that appear on a regular basis on here - but those who push their negativity on an almost daily, sometimes hourly, dislike it - understandibly.  I know people hate to have their deep felt negativity questioned, it goes to the very heart of the way they are - much like I don't like to have my positivity questioned - but that's life imo - it is good to have your beliefs questioned - it's how we learn as people.  I know I can sound pompous and annoying, I get that, but I am not like that all the time, usually only when pushed into it.....ok, I'm sounding pompous again, so I'll leave it alone. Have a nice day.

It may look like narcissm to you, but that is just another convenient label. The simple truth is that people don't like having their beliefs questioned that and if I sound patronising or pompous or whatever it is because I genuinely want people to rethink the way they think - particularly of course their negativity. Maybe I shouldn't do that, but on a football level I also genuinely believe that fans and the way they think, talk and act about the football can have an effect on a club. Some find that difficult to understand and I guess that will never change, so I am probably wasting my time - but it won't stop me trying. And there was NOTHING wrong with this thread nor the learning curve thread, both of which received likes from several posters.  It is just part of what this board is supposed to be about - discussion.

I don't mind Lakey but I had issue with him completely unfairly calling me out for something the other week and he then got all pretentious and difficult about it when I called him out for doing the exact thing he accused me off.

Makes it difficult to defend him, especially when posters like FTW are easy-going and good to read.

Stay positive Lakey.....

It's still mathematically possible we can finish above Liverpool.......

As long as we win every game and they lose all theirs, we can pip them by one point.

Keep the faith. 😀

1. Yes, I know I can irritate people, especially those that don't understand that to be optimistic in the face of adversity is a good thing.

So if you know you do it and you continue to do it, then you're clearly doing it intentionally?

'Likes' mean nothing, literally nothing - Piers Morgan and Katie Hopkins get hundreds of thousands a day, they mean nothing.

The weird thing is, I'm have the same positive view (not to your attention seeking extent) but the way you deliver everything is futile/vastly over exxagerated/purley to be hostile.

Well worked out, Lapps 😁

I was looking at the remaining fixtures yesterday and we need probably 9 victories and one or two draws in the last sixteen games to stay up. Looking at those fixtures, it is difficult to predict where those victories might come from.  In the first half of the season, we out manouvred Man City, Newcastle and Everton, matched Leicester and Arsenal quite comfortably, should have beaten Wolves, Sheff Utd and  Southampton, would have beaten Spurs but for VAR, so anything is possible as we have to play those teams again.

In the mini league, amongst our last six games we play Watford, Brighton, West Ham and Burnley, three of them at home, we also have Southampton and Everton at home to come and a mouth watering home match against Liverpool. Plenty to come and the ball is still in our court.

To be honest I don’t have to much gripe with the over optimism although it can become a bit much.

Its the condescending way that people are told to get a grip and that anything different from blind faith and optimism is being negative and damaging the club!!!

It’s costs a lot of money to follow your team and go to every game. Some people need to remember that before the give their armchair view on everyone else’s opinions.
