Duda done deal according to father 🙏

Recommended Posts

From the Pink’uns main page, Duda’s father has all but confirmed it, fingers crossed - sounds like Daniel Farke’s ‘pulling power’ (I don’t mean with the ladies) made it straightforward choice for Duda, and we have beaten off some serious competition by all accounts. If Palace in particular were one of the teams, that’s a real coup given Duda would have had the chance to join a side who are unlikely to go down this season, and earn himself a contract in the Premier League next season - I guess he must also feel we have a good chance to get out of this mess, assuming he’s vying for a move to the Premier League permanently. Just goes to show how highly Daniel is regarded back in Germany if this is the case - sign Duda and follow it up with Robin Koch and those 2 signings alone would be a very good window I feel. Those are the 2 most important areas I feel need covering, and both those players have very good pedigree so we’re certainly not done yet folks - I wanted to say ‘fingers crossed for Koch’ too, but I feared receiving a raft of unwanted offers in my private messages.

Good signing but seems a strange one given that we are scoring goals but not defending so well. Let us hope it is just a first buy and that CB is coming hot on his heels...

I remember another season when everyone could see we needed a CB but kept buying number 10s!

Deals don't get done by the teams priority, you get the players in when they become available.

There were some stats going around over the last few days highlighting our lack of goals from the no. 10 position, looks like they've decided to do something about it.

We have shown a complete inability to score the extra 1 or 2 goals needed to kill off games we are dominating so I’d have to disagree that we don’t need attacking improvement. Asking any defence to hold onto a 1 nil lead is always a gamble, one we are continuously losing at the minute.

We have 100% looked more solid since the peak of the injury crisis I feel, where we often looked at sixes and sevens at the back. And when we’re not drawing we seem to be losing by a solitary goal. I think Duda could really make that difference in our attacking armoury. A front starting four of Pukki, Cantwell, Duda and Buendia could be mouthwatering - to me he looks the final piece of the jigsaw in that area and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think he could be that missing clinical link we’ve needed, the one that converts draws to wins. Can’t help but be excited by his arrival, I have a very good feeling about him.

Hope you are right. And I look forward to seeing him play

But, sadly, I am less excited with the deal overall as I have reservations.

How long for him to bed in? I ask because his father has stated openly that he only wants to play in the top division and, given that we have so few points, we are very, very unlikely to be in that division beyond this summer. So then we lose him having paid quite a chunk for what gain exactly? I guess the hope is that he helps us survive. But haven't we done the 'too little too late panic signings' before and had claimed we have learnt from them?

At this stage young promising full time signings would surely be the prudent option given that few have survived with 14 points at this stage. And again given our leaky defence- one injury away from disaster - I was hoping for a really decent young CB and CDM who could transition into our next season.

I will put my tin hat on.

What a surprise.DCB moaning about someone we haven't officially signed yet.  Damned if we do. Damned if we don't. What a drudge.

Who says we won’t sign that young centre back? And why should we just roll over and not sign a talented player with nearly half the season to play on the basis that some have us relegated already? Supporters would be going mental if we didn’t try to rectify or improve the situation, so.... ? Remember, if Duda does very well, then he may just help turn draws into wins and keep us in the division, thus giving us the chance to sign him. And if it doesn’t work out, then none of us will be disappointed that we won’t be able to sign him in the summer. It’s pretty simple really : )

Basically it’s got to the point that anyone signing will help our survival chances, even if it’s only marginal gains. We are woefully short on numbers and only Pukki and Cantwell have really scored any league goals this season, which is quite a damning fact as to why we’re sitting bottom of the league.  We’re going into a match today with one fit striker, an 18 year old who has 2 minutes of premier league football to his name. Yes, you could argue it’s too little too late and our summer recruitment was a shambles but I’ve not given up just yet and if Duda makes any kind of contribution over the next few months, I’m all for it.

Agreed.

Also, are we scoring that many goals? Only four sides in the division have scored fewer than us, so we’re hardly free flowing. And apparently Buendia is the second highest chance creator in the division, which may suggest we aren’t converting. Add to that the fact we have the worst defence (by quite some way, only Villa are close) and there’s an argument we need to score more to counter balance that.

We got promoted by outscoring sides - it was obvious that when we came up we’d score fewer and concede more against better opposition without strengthening in attack and defence. That has been shown to be true, so reinforcements anywhere are welcome imo!

The problem with some fans is they forget this is a game, for entertainment purposes. If he comes in, helps us play some exciting football and entertains us, the fans, for six months, is that not a loan worth doing?

For me, I think this is a good thing for the club (we're getting a talented player who on paper would seem to improve the squad), good thing for the player (he gets out and plays games at a high level to either put him in the shop window or back in contention at his parent club) and good for us fans as we get to see a player who seems to have a good pedigree.

I say enjoy the ride without thinking their needs to be some master plan surrounding every signing.

It amazes me that season after season after season people still don’t get this.

Creates competition for places, which is a good thing. Emi and Todd might have an eye on bigger and better things for the future but that doesn't mean they deserve automatic selection. They both need to finish the season strongly so will need to earn their place, so we'll need consistency from Todd and goals from Emi. McLean is the interesting one for me as I actually think he has done well but has it been good enough?

It's obvious we need another specialist CB. It would be reckless to rely on Tettey and Amadou as cover.

His competition for the attacking centre midfield spot are McLean and steiperman. I read they have a combined total of one goal and one assist all season.( Not checked if this is correct. ) Any time you can potentially upgrade the first eleven you should take it, unless it will put you in financial difficulty.

How soon he will play for us is the question. Depends on his mentality and ability to fit the system, but to get a player in that is going to make a difference half way through the season, he has to be able to fit in straight away - and that isn't always easy for a player, however good they are.

Herman, I can sort of understand as I too would have loved this as a permanent signing, very good player for our club, I’ll take a loan as that’s what’s done.

He looks a very intelligent player who I would imagine could seamlessly slot right in. I wouldn’t imagine there’s anything he couldn’t pick up in a week tactics wise, I think match fitness is more likely an issue but we will see.

Can you imagine DCBs wife (I mean, admittedly you'd first need to be pretty imaginative to think said wife exists) running into the house to greet him with major excitement "We've won the lottery!!!" only for DCB to come back with "What's the point, I'll probably die before I get to spend it all"

He will be used to the German way of playing football. A friend of mine spends a lot of time in Germany and watches a lot of Bundesliga games and he tells me that Norwich play the same/similar to most teams in that league.

A better analogy would be Mrs DCB running in happy because she purchased a speed boat when the family car was in need of replacing...

Good signing but seems a strange one given that we are scoring goals but not defending so well. Let us hope it is just a first buy and that CB is coming hot on his heels...

Not necessarily CB's fault. Our style sends the full backs up the pitch. Maybe our holding midfield players are not good enough. But I am one who thinks zonal marking is a big contributor. And people can throw up stats about it, but it clearly doesn't work for us. Even pundits are talking about it.

And we are not exactly scoring more than a goal a game. So we cannot really say we are scoring goals. In fact we have failed to  score in one third of our games. But it is ironic that the Blades have only scored one more than us and sit fifth. But they have only conceded 21.

I don't wish to start another argument as I know many would swap what they are doing for what we are doing, but I am of the opinion that this is the best footballing team we have ever had although it is arguable we have had better teams. in different eras.

Which leads me to believe he’s a replacement for someone leaving. Cantwell maybe or even Emi.

i don’t trust the board as far as I could throw them.

In virtually all of our recent home games we have been dominant in the first half but missed 3 or 4 decent chances (or in the case of Spurs been denied by VAR) and gone in only one goal ahead. Had we been more clinical and opened up the cushion in those games we should have done then I have no doubt we would have won a couple of them. Some of it was down to some uncharacteristic misses from a not fully fit Pukki but if Duda can help to make us more clinical then he good be an important signing, even if it is probably too late now.

We are also not conceding that many goals from open play any more. It remains set pieces and the following second phase that are the problem.

Agree with the zonal marking argument. Think it can work if you have a strong physical side. With ours not being that physical, anyone with a running jump is going to tend to win the ball.

Looks a good signing. We literally have two players that are scoring goals so if he can chip in as well then some of these draws may be wins
