Farkeball

Recommended Posts

Farkeball doesn't seem to be working. Is it time for a change? Not necessarily manager but the ability to adapt style of play more.  'Yes' or 'No'.

Absolutely not, we have played some of the best football I have seen in the last year, if this is the model going forward then I’m more than happy with it

Hell no. The football is quite superb and at times it’s slicing the opposition open. The problem is we lack the extra quality to take the chances and punish teams when we’re dominating. We have no option to bring anyone on if Pukki is misfiring, as he has in the last two matches that we’ve dominated. and no options on the bench from midfield to chip in with goals. In fact only Cantwell is doing that in the starting 11

Not scoring goals does not seem to be working.

How many chances you create is a fair measure of how well your system works, and it’s working well. Not finishing those chances is a different story. So whine about that if you like ...

Spot on. How people can lose faith so quickly purely on results is astonishing.

No whine here Surfer. This is a long term project. The board know where we're going and how we'll get there, we're just ahead of schedule.

No, Farkeball is not responsible for all of these missed chances week in week out

I'd like to see Daniel become more proactive with his substitutions, but whatever happens we need to give him carte blanche to learn his own lessons and keep moving us forward. If we're still shipping a ton of goals from set pieces and not using subs more effectively next season in the Championship, maybe we can ask questions then. He's on a very steep learning curve, and is keeping up admirably.

Not really.... how many you give the opposition is equally important, if not more.

Tyson Fury doesn't win boxing matches by landing lots of punches, he wins them because he's probably one of the top 5 defensive heavyweights of all time. He wins because he's hard to punch, not because he's particularly good at punching (he's not a big hitter).

We've scored more goals than Crystal Palace in 9th, and Newcastle in 10th.

We've conceded more goals than any other team in this division. I'm sure people will point out our injury crisis in defense, but we've gone down the table since having 2 fit centre backs again (whichever 2 from Zimmermann, Godfrey and Hanley that is).

Sometimes teams are happy to let the opposition have the possession if they feel it will lead to counter attacking opportunities / space to exploit, as opposed to facing a brick wall against a team parking the bus.

There is a balance to be struck, and clearly we haven't struck it.

Villa are weak in the air, terrible at set pieces. They would much rather face a passing team which gets forwards and presses high up the pitch so they can try and pinch one on the counter with the pace they have at their disposal than a big strong side which is good in the air and adept at sitting deep like Crystal Palace.

That's not to say that we aren't woeful at converting chances, we are of course. Even Pukki's decision making must be called into question, he really should have squared that ball to Tettey.

The style of play isn't the issue, it's more about making tactical changes to win matches. Farke is not good at that in the Premier League. Smith made the match winning change today bringing on Hourihane who instantly clicked with Grealish. Farke left the subs too late again - why does he always wait until we are losing? Today he took our best player off and flung on all 3 subs at once and that totally disrupted our flow and we were nowhere as good. Same against Sheff Utd and Wolves, games lost because he wasn't proactive enough.

Not saying he should be sacked, but it's a No Farkeball isn't working.
