Advice on Prime matches

Amazon prime has a month's free trial so you can sign up, cancel immediately and still watch for free without streams going down etc

Well I don't like Amazon. I only buy a couple of things a year from them and each time I do I get automatically signed up for Prime which I don't need or want. Personally I don't think that they should be allowed to do that.

I then have to jump through all sorts of hoops to cancel it which is a pain.

Not really had any problems this season with streams going down. They are now pretty reliable and much picture better quality than they used to be.

It's probably more tiresome trying to cancel Amazon than it is to find a good stream.

I'm an Amazon shopaholic and even have my own locker at the local petrol station 😃

Between them and Tesco all my shopping needs are served, with the only dilemna being which one to use to fill up the car.😃😃

I don't understand how you are 'automatically' signed up for Prime when buying from Amazon. I have Prime, but that wasn't originally the case.

Also, cancelling is just one click surely? I have cancelled it annually when I go abroad with no problems, although taking up the annual £54.00 deal this year negates that this time around I'm now hoping to watch the  the Boxing Day game abroad, which will make it worth it.

I thought that last night's coverage was decent and am hoping for some more Prime games in the future It was nice not having to negotiate all the tricks that are served up on the likes of Cricfree etc. for once.

P.S. In order to compensate for my devotion to these multi-nationals I intend to vote Green at the forthcoming poll. So there!

Good on ya Planso, I signed up yesterday but there was no hint that  the matches were unavailable in Ireland until I had done so. Typical shyster tactics from a massive corpo that doesn't need my business but wants me signed up in case I'm too lazy to get myself back out their clutches, so they can clip me for a few€€€ a month. I hope lots of people take advantage and cancel immediately, gaining them 0 new customers.

Before we know it they'll be dropping unwanted shoite into your collection bin that you have to send back in order not to be billed for something you didn't order. ......because they  " thought you'd want it" .

That's all good Broado, as long as you are happy with the death of the high street .

This is in the Guardian today:

This, in many ways, is how Amazon implants itself in our lives: subtly, seamlessly, insidiously. It appears and it disappears at the same time. First it takes over your bookshelf. Then your music player. Then your food cupboard and the items in your drawers. Then your evenings in front of the television. Self-worth gets delivered promptly to your door within one working day. It’s all so easy, so frictionless, you don’t notice the 30-day trial you forgot to cancel, the data you’re giving away for free, the factory workers denied toilet breaks, the small high street bookshop with closing down signs in the windows.

I'm neither happy nor unhappy, I just see it as evolution in the way that things are never constant.

None of the three High Streets in my area are actually dead. The opposite in fact and all have shown signs of revival, not just with charity shops, casinos or coffee outlets either, but more with 'designer' & craft shops, eg. a vinyl record outlet, a furniture restoration centre, an upholsterer, a home-brew shop, and a small craft beer bar have all sprung along with bistros and even more market stalls. Some buildings have been converted into flats, which eases the housing crisis. It's swings and roundabouts.

I can no more mourn the death of Woolworth's or  BHS  than I can the extinction of the dinosaurs. With their prices W. H. Smith and Boots might not have long to go in their present incarnation either.

The weekly queue up in the bank is not missed either, to say nothing of having to drive around for an expensive parking slot in order to effect the slightest transaction.

Of course these changes inconvenience some, especially the elderly, but perhaps this perceived "decline" can be reversed with local authorities  using some of the cash from their meters to find ways to assist these people more, and perhaps if business rates and rents were not used as a cash cow for the government and the landowners alike then the 'problem' might not have arisen in the first place.

We cannot spend our time mourning the past surely? I do miss those two little old men who used to walk around the pitch at Carrow Road with the half-time scores on a board though, or was it some competition result? And warm beer of course.

Well on the odd occassion that I buy from Amazon (they are always my last port of call) I always get signed up for Prime automatically. In my experience there isn't a choice. They just do it.

When trying to cancel I have never seen or found "a one click" cancellation option and in my experience trying to cancel is deliberately made difficult

Cricfree? Blimey that's a bit old hat. Not sure that that is still around and things have moved on.

There are now loads of really good options that do not involve "tricks" and which don't automatically sign me up for something that I don't want and have to pay for.

Tell me more.

Btw, Cricfree was excellent throughout the entire Ashes series.

Ah but how many pages did you have to go through to get to that.

No matter what you say I do not believe that they should be allowed to sign you up for it automatically. The option to sign up or not sign up should clearly be displayed before you complete your purchase or pay them any money.

And if you don't cancel, for whatever reason, within 28 days then you end up paying them £7.99 a month for a year.

That cannot be right.

"No matter what you say I do not believe that they should (not) be allowed to sign you up for it automatically."

But they do not. I assure you of that. Prime membership is a matter of choice and not a requisite for making purchases  ... unless things have changed very recently.

You said Cricfree was "old hat" and that there were loads of better sites. I would be keen to get details ... if allowed on here.

I take it you don't live in North Norfolk , nor me, I left 30 years ago, but the town I used to live in is exactly what you described , second hand shops etc.

Some real beer is better ' not chilled" ....can kill the flavour of a decent brew. I make my own. Interesting side issue on the Amazon factor that if it not for having to go out I would love to get into. Back this evening to watch/discuss footy👍

The CAMRA position is that ‘beer’ (real ale, whatever that means) should be “cellar temperature”. So colder than room temperature, warmer than fridge.

I thought you could cancel anytime rather than be locked in for a year ( unless you choose that option obviously)

When you order you will see they have already automatically ticked the delivery box for Amazon Prime. You have to change this before ordering. I agree all underhand and a fiddle to cancel.

For the football I started to make an order, whereby the Amazon Prime was ticked, BUT did not complete the order. Saw last night's game - good coverage and looking forward to tonight. BUT as has been said you must cancel in time, particularly as I understand it that after Xmas there will be no games covered for a while. This is all classic modern "ripoff Britain"

So if I cancel tomorrow will I still get a full month ?

Yes. I checked the small print.  Well, the irish version  , which is not showing the  footy anyway  . I'm cancelling  tomorrow,  waiting just in case the matches miraculously  appear.

I recently signed up to prime after using Amazon for years. Not once did I automatically get signed up automatically and you have to actually click a button which starts a free prime trial.

In addition if you pay the £7.99 a month that is a monthly subscription so cancelling would see your membership end at the end of that month.

Infact it's actually more generous than that. If you use the free trial but forget to cancel the membership and get billed the £79.99 (or £7.99 If paying monthly) as long as you haven't used any prime benefits in that time they will still.issue a free refund

Student membership is about £40 too and had a 6 month free trial.

Personally I think the Prime advertising has been very clear that they're showing two clumps of matches over a few days, now and just after Christmas, I don't think they've over-sold it.

As for ordering via Amazon, I think the same rules apply for buying anything online, you need to be careful which boxes you need to tick or not tick for the options they'll give you.  I did find it irritating that Amazon would default to a free Prime trial which I had to un-tick whenever I ordered anything (until I got Prime last year), but the same applies to pretty much everything else I do online so I don't notice it as any different.

For me, finding an online stream to watch a Prem match is a real hassle - I find I get loads of annoying popups for gambling sites or other pretty dubious looking websites plus messages telling me I have viruses/trojans and encouraging me to click on links to get software to protect against this (which I know are more likely to be trojans/spyware in reality) plus I find the links normally crash every 15 minutes or so and I have to re-boot them, missing a few minutes of the action.  But maybe if I did all this more often, I wouldn't find it such a problem.
