Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest

Recommended Posts

The one constant in the madness of this roller-coaster is of course the Socialists. How can it be possible that the same mistakes are made by so many different Canary managers?

When Norwich were in the EPL in 04/05 under Worthy they had a makeshift centre back in Simon Charlton. He never played there for Bolton in the EPL.

When they were in the EPL under Alex Neil they had a makeshift centre back in the boy Martin.

Now they are in the EPL again they have not one but two makeshift centre backs. Now of course you are all going to say this is due to the injury crisis, but had City gone out and bought the two centre backs that were necessary for this league, as has been stressed time and again by my mate Greg Downs, then it would not have been necessary to revert to makeshift players. Quite rightly, Norwich are being punished for failing to strengthen the very two positions that needed it above all others.

Using makeshift players in the EPL is bound to lead to instant relegation so the fact it has occurred over so many different management and coaching regimes means that the only viable explanation for this madness is that the Socialists have the ultimate say in recruitment and team selection and it is they who seek instant relegation because taking the EPL income and running back to the Championship suits their ownership model.

From the title of the thread I assumed Vince was giving us a sneak-preview into his auto-biography....

Terry Anderson and John Deehan too. So there must have been a Suffolk Socialist Time Machine involved....

Before your time, young Nutty, but Terry Allcock filled in as a central defender when the sainted Watling was chairman...

There is a world of difference between just filling in for a few games and being put there for a whole season, or best part thereof, which was the point being made.

Yes, I wondered if you'd fall into the little trap I set, by saying Allcock had only 'filled in'. In fact he played 22 games in the 1964-65 season in central defence, and pretty much all of the 1965-66 and 1966-67 seasons, and part of the 1967-68 season.

It got so bad once that we even took Bobby bell on loan!

I remember Ron Saunders putting Ted Payne up front. I think he was trying to make a point rather than any tactic.

Simon Charlton has played centre back for Bolton and I distinctly remember him marking Thierry Henry completely out of the game

How many times? What was his normal position? Consider his height. Did he have a stepladder?

Godfrey is never going to shake off the makeshift CB tag in the eyes of the morons while he's here is he? In the future, even after a long and successful career in the PL playing that position some of our stupider fans will still consider him a defensive midfielder because Paul Hurst played him there in the lower leagues. The irony in the thread title, it's too much

He was predominantly a left back, but played quite a few times for Bolton at centre back, with regards to his height, you can be vertically challenged and play centre back! Bobby Moore, Puyol, Cannavaro to name but a few who didn’t make a bad career out of being small and at centre back

You just made me spit out my coffee with that comment! I don't think Simon could have marked a corpse out of a game, bless him.

He never played for us against Arsenal though.

Haha I know! I saw him play against Birmingham away that season and couldn’t believe this was the same bloke. I remember the hype about it when we signed him

As much as I agree with elements of the OP, I recall Chris Sutton coming through as a centre back and swiftly becoming a top class centre forward (and PL winner).

Well I didn't rate Doherty in his natural position yet alone as a striker, but good point on Dublin.

Apparently Bryan Gunn was good enough to be an outfield player if he wanted it!

It's true Charlton markeb Henry out of the game when he played for Bolton V Arsenal.

I wonder how Robert Chase would've been able to cope with the current transfer window system. It would've stopped him selling players during the season to pay off the short term loans he took with the bank.
