Plastic Scouser 0 Posted January 25, 2006 So we see that Ashton walked away from City with more money in his back pocket than many of us will see in our lifetimes...The laughable thing is that the FA are insisting that there is no corruption in the game and that the "independent" inquiry will prove this! This is coming from the cosiest little bunch of sports administrators in the world. It was interesting to hear the proposal that players pay agents, not clubs - wonder how Ashton''s uncle would have managed to work his little payoff if that was the case...The game stinks - it''s effect is pretty evident on these boards and from the news of Ashton''s pay-off. I''m upset that City even agreed to such clause in his contract - perhaps the club could start setting an example and make a stand against such obvious attempts to line the pockets of an already privileged and overpaid group of sportsmen. ZLF 242 Posted January 25, 2006 I am not sure what all the fuss is about - this was reported earlier in the week and is a common feature of player contracts - signing off fees, ironically named ''loyalty'' bonus'' for players who are sold without a transfer request being made (as in this case); at least this is in the open and not like the hidden bungs that agents allegedly pay managers to secure a sale or purchase.we already know they are very well paid individuals, rewarded well beyond the real worth in entertainment; player power has gone too far and this is just a common feature of that control.
