City resist Jerome bid

Jan 26 2006

Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo

Cardiff City will resist all offers for Cameron Jerome - unless a bid reaches a level they cannot turn down.

The Bluebirds are under no pressure to sell their leading goalscorer. Owner Sam Hammam''s stance is that Cardiff City would want ''At least £3.5m, maybe more.''

Sheffield United''s success in buying 31-year-old Ade Akinbiyi, from Burnley, for £1.75m has ended their interest in Jerome and stopped the chance of an auction. But Cardiff will not sell unless they believe it is a realistic price.

An initial bid from Norwich City has been turned down, but they are still in talks with Cardiff.

I have a feeling that the club does not seriously beleive it can/wants to sign Jerome. Its just a load of smoke and mirrors for that fans If you look back to when we signed Ashton the club was very professional about the whole process. There were a couple of rumours flying round the message boards but the club was tight lipped. There was not much in the press.

This time there is loads in the press. Is this to calm the fans down? Did we offer a low sum knowing it would be turned down? With under a week left before the end of the transfer window are we going to sign anybody?

Apparently it will genuine silly money to get Cameron. - see http://carrowroad.net/thestand/index.php?showtopic=6548 well done PaulyH for uncovering this.

Allegedly Cardiff have recently registered a secured loan from a couple of directors against Jerome value.   In a nutshell Cardiff have already had the transfer fee so selling Jerome will not bring them any cash, as the loan will be repaid first, and will leave them a player short... so why will they sell for small beer??

£3.5m is more than we paid for a proven Ashton and would be far more than its worth...
