Read various reports about this, bad ?

Haven't seen any reports, do you have a link please?

All I've seen is a picture his missus put on Instagram of him wearing a protective boot?

Not a great start in terms of injuries we have sustained. Assuming a back pairing of Amadou & Godfrey, with Vrancic / Leitner or McLean in Trybulls space. How did Amadou look recently?

Officially confirmed that he's out for six weeks.

Shame for him, but one man's injury is another man's opportunity.   Could see Amadou establish himself now, providing he's not needed at CB, or if he is, some game time for Tettey.

We’re quickly running out of players that are able to take their “opportunity “.

If Zimmerman is ok for Man City then we're actually only missing Trybull and Klose from the central defensive positions so not too bad.

I like your glass-half-full use of the word "only" there!

Not that I know anything but Zimbo recovering from ligament damage in just a couple of weeks sounds unlikely. 😞

Well, it depends on how you look at it really. To me, I view Klose as probably our third choice central defender and I'd expect Trybull to have become our second choice DM behind Amadou.

Sure it'd be nicer if they were fit but I don't think it makes us too much weaker right now. However, if Zimmerman is also out then suddenly it is a very different picture.

Had we had 2/3 fully fit centre halves this wouldn't have been a worry, as it would have forced Daniels hand to start Amadou, however it looks like he'll now be needed at centre half meaning we're now a CDM short.

I assume Hanley is out for a while longer then?

Not according to Michael Bailey.

If Hanley is fit but Zimmerman isn't then we're stretched but still have enough.

If Zimmerman is fit then we've basically got our first choice central defenders and Amadou has a chance to stake a claim at defensive midfield with Tettey and Hanley to back them all up.

Stiepermann can play defensive midfield, just putting that out there.

Tettey is good at proving the doubters wrong, gets written off every season!

We'll be OK. It's not ideal however we have both Tetty and Amadou as specialist CDM options  (if Amadou is not needed at CB) even Byram could pay CDM if needed although its not his usual position.

It's not helpful having this many senior players injured but there is nothing we can do about it now. People just have to step up and take their opportunity to get into the side.

People are asking questions about Stiepermann's ability in his natural position, so using him elsewhere would be far from ideal.

For Vfl Bochum he played as a holding midfielder or left back, not as an attacking midfielder.

That's where we signed him from. We then used him as a left back.

I didn't just make it up for fun.

It may be "far from ideal", but if we require Amadou at centre back (e.g. if Hanley gets injured again) then he may prove to be the best option we have depending on whether Tettey still has the legs or not.

Transfermarkt, which is a very reliable source, claims that he never played either the DM (defensive midfield) or LB (left back) role at Bochum.

Most of his appearances were CM (central midfield) with the others at LM (left midfield) or AM (attacking midfield).

And if you go back a little further, he generally played as an attacking midfielder or right winger for his previous club Greuther Fürth, again with no appearances at left back or defensive midfield.

I think I'll trust Daniel Farke over transfermarkt if that's OK with you?

Upon signing him Farke said this:

Head Coach Daniel Farke believes Stiepermann's versatility will prove useful this season.

"Marco will give us many options and is at a good age," Farke said.

"He's an all-rounder and a creative guy. He started his career as a number ten but last season played as a holding midfielder and in the left full-back position a lot.

This regime is the least likely in the history of this club to get something like that wrong. Thankfully they actually watch players rather than scout on transfermarkt.

So I'll say it again, Stiepermann is an option as the holding midfielder if we find ourselves short.

Transfermarkt also shows that he played Attacking MIdfield or second striker in just 2 games for Bochum

Farke was using creative licence with the term 'left back' and 'holding midfielder'.

He spent the majority of the season playing as a central midfielder in a 4-2-3-1, so he could cover in that role, but I would say if we're going to use him there then he would be used more in the Leitner/McLean/Vrancic role rather than the Trybull/Tettey one.

For the final couple of months, Bochum reverted to a 3-5-2 system and Stiepermann played in the left wing-back role. There's a difference between that and left-back.

The lack of news around Zimbo, other than he's sustained ligament damage is worrying. That could be a 6 week lay-off too.

Must be the most injury prone squad we've had for many a season.

Pretty much the same squad as we had last season. It’s just a matter of luck, but a couple of our guys, namely Onel and Steips should be a bit more careful during close season !

You are putting a lot of faith in a website which values Ben Godfrey at £5.4m and thinks 33 year old Alex Tettey is worth more than Moritz Leitner.

I suspect you aren't able to tell me where this website sources its data, it doesn't seem to employ its own analysts/researchers like Perform Group/Opta and similar companies do, so they must get their data from third party providers on license from the various different countries.

You can trust Transfermarkt as much as you like, I just find that a bit odd because they aren't transparent on where this data comes from.

If Farke says he played holding midfielder then he played holding midfielder, there is literally no man on earth I'd trust more with a claim like that.

The player values on Transfermarkt are ridiculous, agreed, but the data they provide on matches played is generally spot on.

Yep , and it's nearly all defenders...part of the pitch where we're been the most vulnerable , even last season... didn't really invest in it during the summer...

We're going to need lady luck to start smiling on us sooner rather than later...
