Any confirmation on the seriousness of Klose's injury?

I imagine the MRI will be performed today as you need sufficient time for the swelling to go down. Based on what was said after the game you would imagine some form of ACL ligament damage, lets hope it is a sprain and not a tear.

What would a sprain mean (a difference of months or weeks)?

Depends, they will grade it a 1, 2  or 3.  1 is where the ligament is mildly stretched but still supports the joint and should recover in a month or two.  Grade 2 would be a partial tear and may require minor surgery and 3 is a complete tear. I am not an orthopaedic specialist but that is my basic understanding of these types of injuries.  Lets hope for either a severely bruised knee or a grade 1 sprain if it is the ACL.

While I agree that our defensive issues are caused by our attacking mentality the latter part of that is just nonsense. Playing Zimmerman over Hanley throughout the season would win us more points, his extra ability would turn some losses into draws and some draws into 3 points. As another poster pointed out only one defender in the championship made more blocks than Zimmerman last season. Watching the games this season it’s very noticeable how many times Godfrey has his body blocking shots, I’ve not seen the same with Hanley

It's not just about the defensive work, more importantly it's about comfort on the ball. Last season there was only one player who averaged more passes per game than Zimmerman and that was Godfrey! (51.8 and 51.6 PPG), Hanley only attempted 35, at a far worse success rate as well (74% to 83%). This really impacts the way we play and means that we invite pressure back on to us as we end up lumping it forwards where we don't have the physicality to compete effectively for the first and second balls...

Misread stats, tettey is second most passes at 51.6, Zimmerman was third with 51.5.

Yes, the stats back it up!

I will defend Hanley as I don't think we should be too quick to jump on one player and single them out, ever. But Zimbo, although not particualrly blessed with pace, is really Farke's man. His positional sense seems to be way better than GH and he has also got the physicality to compete at this level. There is a question mark over him when he's up against forwards with lots of pace, but he has often found answers. He plays the game in a far more intelligent way than GH.

The news on Klose isn't good, however we are in better shape this week than last on the subject of CBs with the return of Zimbo.

Furthermore Amadou could not possibly have been given a start ahead of Hanley for political/ people management/ squad unity reasons as he can't just turn up at the start of the season and immediately displace the club captain or indeed any other established player- however now he must be in contention with a few games played.

Farke is also on record as restating Amadou's credentials as a CB option. This gives us a first team with 4 CB  choices.

Consequently the glass is half full on the subject of Centre Backs and not half empty as some would have it - despite the misfortune with Klose.

The rest is down to attitude and performances.

If they perform well enough, then they are experienced enough and good enough for the premiership. We don't need to panic or make to Godfrey wear a suit made from bubble-wrap in between games (Pukki is another story).

He's just so bloody huge. Hanley must be of a similar size, but Zimbo seems to be able to act like a 6 foot wide brick wall that the opposition has to run around. As you say, I think this is down to his positional & footballing intelligence.

I agree with that in a vacuum but you have to wonder why DF came out saying it looks like an ACL injury. If it was just on the mechanism of injury why would they specifically mention the worst case? Makes me fear that Klose has an obviously positive anterior drawer test and Lachman on examination which then makes a full tear much more likely. (although not certain in acute setting if I remember right) Otherwise surely DF'd say he has a bad looking swollen knee and we're waiting for the scan.

Obviously I hope I'm wrong.

DOI while I am a medical doctor, I'm not orthopaedic.

Has anyone seen the scans to prove Klose's injury???

Eh? Do you think we might be making it up? 🤨

From what I have heard regarding the challenge i.e. front on it seems ACL injury rarely results like this.  Hope I'm right unless injury sustained otherwise  than I understood.

Still not confirmed, another scan required next week, best case scenario 4 months out, worst 9-12 months, Zimbo is available however but Hanley strained his groin today so he is out and also needs a scan. Be careful what you wish for for those who didn't want Hanley playing 😯

Klose "may need surgery"

Surely if it was a torn ACL he would most definately need surgery?

There must definitely be damage to the ligament, but the specialist must still be undecided to advice to go down the rehabilitation option or the ACL reconstruction route.  I imagine they want the swelling to reduce further before making their recommendation. You could go down the rehabilitation route for 3/4 months and still have an unstable knee and then end up having the reconstruction.  Tricky, I would work on the worst case scenario and that is he is out for the season.
