*****Official match thread v Crawley*****

Recommended Posts

Not going to get too concerned - 11 who have never played together before, many of whom have hardly played under Farke at all or are coming  back from injury.

I don’t think Idah is likely to be second choice striker and I think with the first choice side out we’d still score. It is a bit of a worry though that without Pukki we couldn’t score tonight - I think I read somewhere that he is well ahead of his expected goals tally already, which suggests that his finishing and scoring half chances perhaps makes us look like we create more and better good chances than we actually do.

Anyone watch it and know how Amadou played? Thoughts on the keeper too?

What a shocking result. At least Ip**** went out to a team a league above them to which most city supporters took the pi**.

We just went out to Crawley Town from league ?

we have very little to crow about.

A good cup run would have been the perfect opportunity to keep the fringe players interested and keep the competition for first team places high. As it stands we now have 11, possibly 12 players who are nailed on every week. Easy to be gutless and brush it under the carpet, but this is a very bad night, humiliating in fact. We lost to ****ing Crawley.

21 shots, 4 on target, only 2 on target for them

And you forgot the most important stat. They scored!

We have no single player who can win the match single handed - even Pukki relies on quality service. Our game depends on telepathic understanding between our players.

We changed all 11 players. Perhaps the result is therefore not that surprising.

Oh no we haven't

Our record in the cups has been dreadful for 25 years. How many times have we been beaten by a lower league team in that time (well into double figures) and how many times have we beaten higher ranked opposition?

Following on that radio stream (thought Jarvis was good as an aside) so caveat these comments. Seemed like Amadou didn’t work in deep CM as not accustomed to the game, much better playing at CB which we may end up seeing. Didn’t really hear Srbeny’s name at all. For all his shortcomings Stieperman is in the thick of things usually. He has not furthered his claim. And Idah isn’t Pukki, and not should he be yet but obviously things not clicking up front.

That team tonight should have been good enough to comfortably beat Crawley. Hardly like a bunch of 17 year olds got played. Looks like it will be back to the 11 that won vs Newcastle and went toe to toe with Chelsea.

Shame really as I wanted the likes of Vrancic, Amadou, Klose, Roberts and Zimmermann to show what they could do

It's a poor result? Ok we will worry about a cup rather than keeping the main team fit and stay in the prem shall we? Morons on here make me laugh

fully agree and premiere league less games than championship mean our bench players  not be have games for match fit at all

It’s interesting how in the past prem seasons we have fairly content with going out early to ‘focus on the league’. Now with the squad as it is and what we consider as depth, it is a disappointment. In a way it’s a marker of how things have changed.

You need games to give your fringe players a run out...this result is a shocker and very very bad for confidence.  Football is very much about confidence

Did anyonce come out of this with any credit?....Amadou display enough to be in the 18 on Saturday?....was the plan that Zimmerman was always only playing 60 mins?.....could he be back for Saturday?

....a good evening for our 1st XI...

25 years?

I go back a lot more years than 25 and we were usually a pretty good cup team

Thats what I had hoped but it seems that he got a knock, but did run off albeit straight down the tunnel

Changing the team completely was always a risky strategy as already pointed out, our game is about moving the ball quickly and having an understanding with the other players.

We literally just threw 11 people together today so it was never going to be a seamless transition. We needed a bit of magic from someone and much better defending from set pieces (sadly, as always). Neither happened.
