Ramrod 258 Posted August 21, 2019 What a great opportunity. We are buzzing. The players are still improving. The crowd are up for it. Expel any complacency and we can beat one of the big boys on Saturday. Back to back wins are EPL gold dust. I hoped for a point but after seeing Leicester cut through Chelsea last weekend and do them for stamina I genuinely fancy a Norwich win. 2 - 1. There has been a good debate about being humble. The other side of the coin is nervousness and a lack of belief transmitting to the players. Well I for one back our boys 100% to beat Chelsea. At the moment we are a better unit.
Smash n grabban 14 Posted August 21, 2019 buzzing for this one too. i would happily take a point of course, but think they are there for the taking. a good time to play them whilst frank still figures out his 11 and style of play so to say. we know our 11, we know our style and if carra is as rocking as it was on saturday just gone it wont be an easy day for the blues. i hope for an unchanged 11 and a similar performance. my only worry is their CDMs are actual PL quality players, unlike newcastles. will todd be able to find those gaps like he did vs newcastle when Kante is sweeping up? will hanley cope with the physical presence of either tammy or giroud? will be an interesting game, one of those where i would not be shocked if we won 2-0, lost 2-0 or drew 2-2!
JF 694 Posted August 21, 2019 I’m fully expecting us to give them a game but make no mistake there are world class players in that Chelsea team. Heart says 2-1 to us but head says 2-2 which would be a fantastic result
splendidrush 699 Posted August 21, 2019 I'd still bite your hand off for a draw.
Branston Pickle 3,632 Posted August 21, 2019 I’m sure we can win if things go right, but I do think some supporters are now almost ‘expecting’ us to win which is probably pushing it. Chelsea are still a top PL side and pushed Liverpool to the limit the other night - they might not currently be as good as they were/finding their feet a bit post-Hazard, but are still pretty good. lake district canary 4,531 Posted August 21, 2019 What we can be sure of is that it will be a high quality game. We play top quality attacking football with teamwork that is as smooth as silk and with supreme fitness and composure such that any team will find us a real handfull. They have top quality players too, but I wonder if pschologically we have an advantage - Lampard will of course spell it out to them how good we are, but it's different telling a team and getting them to be up for it as if they are playing Man City or Liverpool....and they will have to be as up for it as that because we are up there playing as good a football game as any of the top teams. Underestimate us even slightly and they will come a cropper, even if they get a goal or two ahead - we are still the same team as last season who keep going right to the last minute and who can win against all the odds. Surfer 1,547 Posted August 21, 2019 Of course we won’t have to worry about a floodlight failure this weekend - so that’s one less worry for playing this Lampard team.
Half Ar5ed Hipster 82 Posted August 21, 2019 Chelsea need a win and maybe they'll think they can get one at Norwich, they might even underestimate us, regardless of us underestimating them.. In that sense potentially Frankie's boys might be a little tetchy and their defence isn't great.. Feed the Goat and he will score..
Yelloow Since 72 54 Posted August 21, 2019 This will be a cracking game. We will test them but they will also test us with the quality they have. If we start like we did against Newcastle and get the first goal our chances are good but I'm still leaning to a 2-2 draw.
Yellow Fever 3,736 Posted August 21, 2019 I live in hope, fear the worst - the life of a Canaries fan as ever. However we ARE good enough to get a result !
CANARYKING 634 Posted August 21, 2019 Like Liverpool and Man City to come, this is a “ nothing to lose “ game. Might as well go for it, won’t be a great shock if we lose, good thing is we’ve only got to play them twice so let’s get one of them out of the way and move on. Peanuts 150 Posted August 21, 2019 I had a quick look on Chelsea forums and they aren't as confident as I'd have expected. Lots of talk of this being a must win game for them. Although I think the days of teams coming here really needing a result and us obliging are long gone, if they get it together they should have too much for us. Still, they have struggled to score goals and look iffy at the back, plus we have the goat...

No such thing as a "nothing to lose" match. Every match has a potential one or three points available and those points could be crucial at the end of the season, whether it is to stay above 18th place, or to get into the top six or even higher. This team reminds me of Leicester when they won the league - an in form super striker, fantastic team ethic, an excellent midfielder or two, a manager who is loved - and very good quality right through the team. Sometimes things are just meant to be - and at this stage we should rule nothing out, so this is as important a game as any we will play this season. hogesar 9,615 Posted August 21, 2019 I would be absolutely delighted with a point. Look, if they play their best they win - that simple. They have a better squad of players. But if they come here lacking in a little confidence, not quite playing with their tails up etc, we stand every chance.

Chelsea could play at their best and still struggle - they could be confident, play really well - but we're at home, the crowd behind us, full of confidence, the in form striker in the division and quality throughout the team.....it doesn't matter if Chelsea play at their best or not.....as long as we are at our best, we can still beat them. And "better squad of players" does not equal three points....we are going to have a lot of say in that, however well they turn up and play. So they have more expensive players.....well we are in the process of showing how it can be done without spending like the Chelseas of this world - and anyhow, the value and quality of our squad is looking better with each week that goes by. Saturday starts 0-0 and we have every opportunity to win if we are at our best.....I hope Chelsea do bring their best game and make a match of it - it will make it all the more of an achievement if we beat them. Jim Smith 2,314 Posted August 21, 2019 Clearly there is an opportunity here for us if we can bring our A game, The way they are fading in the second half of matches in particular I think presents an opportunity if we can wear them down and knock the ball around nicely. They are playing a very high energy, high up the pitch press which their players don't seem used to yet and perhaps are not quite fit enough for yet. Having said that Chelsea still have a lot of top quality players and they could have been 3-0 up against Leicester last weekend, should have been further ahead against Liverpool in the super cup and were the better side and hit the woodwork twice at Old Trafford in the first half so their first half displays have generally been very good but have gone unrewarded. They are not playing badly despite less than ideal results and they will come out of the blocks fast on Saturday and we need to make sure that we don't make any of our sloppy mistakes or get caught on the ball and gift them a couple of first half presents or the game could be taken away from us in the first half if we are not careful. If we are still in the game after an hour then I think we will have a great chance. If he plays the same tactics against us then if you beat their press their defence can be quite exposed (lots of space in the areas Todd, Emi and Stiepermann tend to operate) and we know that we have the passing/technical ability to do that and to get at them. we did it against Liverpool on a number of occasions and they are the best in the country at playing the high press. But Rudiger didn’t have a pre season and adapting to a new manager / style. They’re certainly not there defensively. Then again Leicester could only exploit that for 1 goal. We will create chances no doubt. Will we continue to score more than our XG suggests? Not all the time. But we’ve done that for over a year now

I think a key difference to that Leicester side though is that they could defend better. As good as our play is at times we still have the potential to get tonked by the big boys in this division is we defend as badly/naively as we did at Anfield. We will need to step it up another notch defensively from Saturday to be honest. We could easily win this game but we could also quite easily lose by 3 or 4 goals. But I’ve started skipping through his posts this season as, like you say, almost every one is the same blindly optimistic statement, expressed slightly differently.
