Recommended Posts

I know this will  cause the  the " purists " to screw up their faces in  mental anguish ,  but at least two of the three goals scored yesterday  ... where through the  astute use of the long ball !    or route one applied  at the right time !!   learn to live with it , LOL [:P]

Nowt wrong with the long ball game - ALL the successful teams us the long ball game to some degree - it only becomes a problem when it is your only attacking option - variety is the spice of life.

funny post this one - theres nothing wrong with the odd long ball especially when you are under the cosh, but as a football club and the players we have we play better when we pass it.  I guess playing long ball was gonna have to help win us one match considering how often we use it and have lost recently.

ShedEd - The long ball worked for a couple of the goals yesterday because we were on the break, the counter-attack, with less midfielders and defenders to by-pass. Our problem this season (especially at home) is that we''ve frequently used the long ball when building from the back in ''slow'' time, against two banks of four; we''ve not had the guile to pass and move into the final third of the pitch. If teams have sat on the edge of the area and said, "Come and break us down", we''ve struggled to do so for much of the season.

The other thing that was different about yesterday was that we managed to stay on-side!

Well thats true enough Link ,  but I did use the term  " astute "  when using the long ball !  hoofing it up the field    to a hapless  single striker   doesn`t come into that catagory ....
