Yep. I thought beating them without Smith might feel like a hollow victory, but getting thrashed when they haven’t even got their best player playing is really poor.

It’s all down to mentality for our batsmen. Look at Stokes getting out today, ridiculous ball to try and play at when you’ve just lost a few cheap wickets. It’s not about having “test match technique” for me - Smith’s technique is a millions miles away from classical. It’s all about having the control and focus to leave the half decent ball that in one day games you need to go after. None of our batsmen (other than perhaps Root when he is in form) have that willingness to stick around.

Phew - I wasn’t expecting that!! The two Joes batted really well yesterday but I thought Root had blown it for us getting out so early this morning....what can you say - when you’ve got a never-say-die guy like Stokes in the team, it’s never over😀😀!
